SINGAPORE : It now comes in a different medium but you can still let your fingers do the walking.

The Yellow Pages started as a book, and then it went online. And now, it's going to your mobile phones.

The Yellow Pages said it wanted to cater to the young who would rather use their mobile phones to search for content.

To use this service, all you have to do is SMS your query to 77777. You will then receive a list of information that matches your request.

Yellow Pages Singapore had been conducting trials over the past two days and found that the service worked successfully.

At the launch of "The Mobile Yellow Pages" on Thursday, leading experts in the IT industry shared their views in a forum hosted by Channel NewsAsia's presenter Timothy Go, who hosts the programme "That's IT".

The panel agreed that despite technological advances, traditional media is here to stay.

And so, the hardcopy of "The Yellow Pages" book will continue to be printed.

Goh Sik Ngee, CEO of Yellow Pages Singapore, said, "The hard copy directory will continue to be relevant and we think it will be relevant for the next 20 years. That is the view shared by Yellow Pages publishers in the world.

"The introduction of this new technology complements the print directory. It means that there are now more channels for users to reach out to our contents." - CNA /ls
