Hi guys,

I am working as a admin staff in one of the hospital. It is a one month contract job.

In the hospital there are colleague whom are senior than me and for me only work there in two weeks nia that y i am still learning because the jobscope is alot and each shift you have to do different things and one senior colleague have been ask to train me.

she had work there for years already and she is very familar with the system.I was a bit slow because i am not use to the enviroment althought i grad with a IT cert but does not prove that i can menorize the different coding they using.

My senior she knew that i am a IT person and expect me to work well with all the programmmes there and you know what different patient have different ways to admit them thats y i am just handson yesterday and she was very angry and rise her voice at me scolding me. i was very sad at that moment first day handson and expect me to work like expect like that.

One colleague and her talks in malay talk bad about me i was like very angry at that moment.

I dislike when they speak malay in the workplace left me out and the senior colleague tell me you have to go learn malay in order to communicate with us i always felt so left out. Is it that if only I can speak malay than i am consider their colleague if not i am just an Outcast in there?

She even speak malay to me when giving instructions to me i was trying very hard to guess what she is talking about.

I am not racist person i just dun know why that cant talk in English and talk in malay and expect other whom does not know what are talking about to figure what is it?

Seriously the Chinese , Malay and Indian colleagues all speak malay during work i have a very hard time working there i have communication breakdown with them. I am LEFT OUT!

I work in a boardgames cafe and when the drinks didn't come customer blame me, I tell kitchen, kitchen also blame me WTF!

Plus I wrote it down already on the menu sheet, somemore ask me to get out of the kitchen. **** lar, stay only coz I need the money.

Now you should realize how the indians and malays feel when the chinese speaks in mandarin in front of them? it is just a vicious circle...

I always treat every race equally in my whole life i every time make a habit speak English outside with friends and colleagues never once ever speak Chinese only in school Chinese lessons and at home if not strictly English i tink must be fare lah. I never treat anyone bad or outcast anyone before in my life y i am treated this way!

Other ppl did not realize their feelings does not means i am like then did not relieze indian and malay's feeling i am a mixed MALAY AND CHINESE but my mixed malay chinese daddy he never teach me malay before he only speak English to me in school my mother let me study Chinese not Malay.

I now still dun understand y my daddy dun teach me malay at lease i can communicate three lanagues

It just happens everywhere...we can be fair..but others may not be....sometimes it happens to me too...

the other non-malays are able to speak malay,
so maybe they are assuming you understand malay too.

have you clarified your senior that you actually don't understand malay and prefers her to speak english?



yeah,

i get this often too in my workplace.

these people talking in another different language and somehow you know they are talking bad about you, making you felt left out.

how did you get the job...did they tell you speaking malay is a requirement?.....she cannot tell you to learn malay...for just one month..

it is not a requirement it only write there need to speak English and Chinese/Malay.

oh ok..so it is not really a requirement.....since chinese is the other alternative...well...the only way is just to finish up the one month.contract....and forget about it...

ya i guess u could try to cope wid them for a month...for me i usually go to industial sites regarding my work....i understand abit of chinese and malay...and whenever they talk to me i dun really understand but i would just shake my head...if i know they were scolding me...i would just say piaseh i dun understand wat u talking...only understand english...

aiyoh Baby Nutz, its only a one month job. dun worry too much. just tell yourself, 'after 2 more weeks i'm outta here' and its CNY already, it's OUR time to party.

some ppl are very insensitive or they purposely behave like jerks, they're like that. just remember NOT to be like them.

then perhaps in the meantime, you can start looking for another job? it's either you leave if you're not happy working there or you try to fit in lor. but also difficult to in your case if you can't speak Malay.
