Total SGC$: 33.50 | Winning an olympic medal via foreign imports. Is it something to be proud of? We won an Olympic silver medal, but it's by a team of foreign imports. Should we really be so proud of it? Is that really something we should boast about, something we should rejoice in? It's almost like Singapore BOUGHT back a medal right? I mean they are not exactly 'home-grown' talents what, right? When I was watching Singapore play China, the only thought that went through my mind was that it's more of China team 2 against China team 1, thus I really have no idea how I should cheer the Singapore team on.
What do you people out there think? Let's share...

Oh well...They did their best to brg a medal for us lah so we might as well appreciate it rite? I really support them though cuz I can see how they tried hard to bring back a medal for US. hey SG, show ur support! but then hor, i tink most of us would haf 2 agree that it would be best if they r realy truly SG-born players rite? but for now, it doesnt matter. our SG team is a part of us

they did undergo training in singapore for some years.. hence its justified to say that they are part of our society.. we should be happy for them regardless if they are truely singaporeans anot.. they have overcome alot of obstacles to get the medal..
btw, i am a singaporean..

How many times must people always dispute over this same topic.
If you're not happy with a team of foreign talents bringing in medals for Singapore, then please when you become a parent and have kids, make sure they can be the future sport talents okay? Your kids can bring Olympic medals to Singapore, oh the national pride, blah blah blah.

duhz~ im proud of them for training hard and fighting strong to help singapore win a medal~ full stop and the end~ as long as they play for singapore and singapore flag was flying up high~ it very good already.
and 1 thing is~ they win, u all not proud~ they lose, u all say singapore have FT that is weak~ so what you all want. so li hai go play urself lor~ or send ur children to train for sport lor~

to be frank, Spore do not really have the talent for sports..
for example the table tennis team who won a silver medal for Spore, they merely represent Spore, but they are all china born people.

Should be more open-minded and big hearted and accept them as singaporeans. I AM proud of them! =)
If you're not proud of them you won't watch the table tennis match. Watching means you're kinda supporting them and hoping they win too isn't it?

They are PR although they are born in China. We shouldnt treat them as aliens. So are we saying that our grandparents are born in China, we treat them as foreigners or aliens too?
Did you watch the news? They are ONLY the 2nd or 3rd best group of table tennis players in China. But for all the hardwork and training that they have in Singapore, they can fight with the WORLD BEST TABLE TENNIS PLAYER IN THE WORLD.
Why can you say that singapore buy back the medals? Do you think that without the effort that they put in, do you think we can also win the silver medal as well? Then we should also import more foreigner soccer players too, (i prefer beckham) then we can also win silver in the worldcup soccer. Then will you disagree or unhappy that we win medal cos of the import foreigner?

we all agree that the FTs' sport gene are definitely from their homegrown country but we cannot denied the fact that they have been training so hard in singapore for all these sports competition, not to mention now that they represents singapore for the competition.
there are also other FT in other countries that won medal. Female Gymnast Nastia Liukin are born in Russia but represents USA and won so many medals including gold and i dont see the US ppl discussing about the topic we are doing now. Instead they discuss everything about the sport and the contestant's skill etc.
the slogan - One World, One Dream. These are some of the best words to describe how the world perceive sports now.
conclusion - get over with the nationality thingy and enjoy the excitements, thrills and sportsmanship spirit display by all these world best sportsman/woman in their games!!! |
