I do not remember seeing game updates on Mario Party 8 (maybe my wii console was already updated when I played Mario Party 8).
SSBB (JAP) is a great game and also update disc for NTSC-J wii console. It'd update the wii console to only 3.1J. I got my 3.2J using the online Nintendo servers.
As for the firmware of your wiikey (if i remember correctly), the latest version is 1.9s. The files are actually on torrent site and you'd require a torrent manager to download it.
a) Download the disc images (Both update and the config disc)
b) Burn out the update (v1.9s) first, run it on your wii (just like game) and follow onscreen instructions.
c) Burn out the config disc as well and run the disc.
d) Turn off developer mode (or block gamedisc updates).
Have fun! | | | | |

By right, you should have just updated to 3.1J and for 3.2J, you'd have to update online (which I did). Maybe you'd like to write what is the firmware version of your wii console?
Having to on/off the set is normal, sometimes the wii will "misbehave" and gotta restart. |

does it mean i hv a semi bricked console??? what shld i do? i stil can play all my p*** games tho. |

There's nothing wrong with your console. It's just stating that there's a new update available (do check the date..normally it's back dated about 1-2 weeks. Feb/March updates) You can safely ignore such messages and throw the messages into the bin (which i did).
Updating of 1.9s is optional unless you're facing problems playing SSBB (JAP/USA) version. The firmware was released to address this game title.
Do not worry about not being updating the firmware on the wiikey. Even if the software/settings on the wiikey is corrupted, one is able to 'recover' it (i've tried breaking my own and being able to recover it.) [Unless you pour water into your wii.. ] |

I have a problem. I've been obsessed trying to make my SMG copy work but to no avail. I've tried a lot of things and have been successful in some of them but SMG is still not working.
Here's what I've done so far:
1) I have an NTSC(US) Wii
2) My first and only update of the Wiikey is 1.9s (I downloaded it and update is successful)
3) I inserted the SMG disc and agreed to the update (note: I don't know which region this disc is)
4) After the update, here are the things I noted: (a) inserting the SMG disc no longer asks for update but (b) when i check the wii settings, it still says 3.0u, (c) also, i got 2 duplicate channels with Japanese characters
5) When I insert the SMG disc, I get to the point where i hear a cartoonish voice shouting "Super Mario Galaxy!", but when I click start, there's a blank screen. I tried to wait but nothing happens.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong? Is it because my console firmware is still 3.0u. Or, is it because my copy of SMG is from another region? or is it something else? help! |

From your items, it looks like you have updated your will console with minor wii firmware updates. The display of duplicate channels (weather and news) is the result of updating your wii console (NTSC-U) with a (NTSC-J) game (SMG, in this instance.) The game will not run (as the game is of different region from your wii console.) NTSC-J games will not run on NTSC-U consoles. The discs got different code and the console will look for the same code before it loads the game, hence you get the result of "nothing happens".
Do not fret about the duplicate channels, it's just cosmetics and will not affect your normal usage of wii console. There are programs to remove the duplicate channel (i would best suggest you not to run it as yet [till you know what you're doing..or else risk bricking your wii for good].
The cartoonish voice-over "Super Mario Galaxy" is there when you insert the gamedisc (which can be heard with NTSC-J, NTSC-U or PAL version). It'd be good to just get the gamedisc (SMG, NTSC-U) for your console.
Hope the information above helps.
Cheers!

What firmware is your wii console? 3.2U? For your wii console update, did you update it online using Nintendo servers or using the gamedisc to update?
Cheers!

Patching is required. Please check here.
All games can be played, but appropriate patching is needed. Instructions r provided in wiki. Just google for the patching programs needed. |

But i suppose most users would have difficulties getting the raw image of the gamedisc to "patch", as the wii gamedisc is in a unreadable format on the pc platform (or even mac/linux), one may still use the wii console to backup the gamedisc and then "patch" it to work.
Apart from patching it, one can also use the Freeloader to run the games. Just get the appropriate region-based Freeloaders for your wii console. |

Haro,
just to share my 2cents worth,
i am also using modded jap console with dc2key, upgraded my firmware to 3.j, able to play 90% of the p***** discs, including Mario Kart US version, majority of US p**** games are playable except that you'll get duplicate channels of weather and the other, just just Duplicate Channel Remover to remove it, burn it onto a dvd-r at 4x speed using IMG burner, play it as normal and let it run, should do the trick, games still not playable are SSBB, and new games like Narnia, Lego Indiana Jones, etc, PM me if u you more info.
