If Metroid 3 game is from the same region as your wii....there is no chance of bricking your wii...
Can provide more details? |

btw wat is the diff btw NTSC, PAL? does it make a diff? sorry for such a noob qn... | | | | | Actually PAL has 576 horizontal lines and NTSC has 480. In DVD terms it's 720x576 (Pal) vs. 720x480 (NTSC). Also pal runs at 25i and NTSC runs at 29.97i.
This makes all video conversion a pain in the ass. Pal also has a better contrast ratio than NTSC.
Technically PAL provides better image quality than NTSC but at lesser refresh rate (50) than ntsc (60). PAL and NTSC are region standards.
How it affects you is dependant on where you live. PAL=Europe & Australia NTSC U = United States & Canada NTSC J = Japan

Total SGC$: 145.34 | Re: wii firmware update query Region free is actually quite dependent on the modchip you have and the firmware in the modchip. There are update (numeroous in the past few weeks for most major modchips)
For later consoles, D2C driven wiis (which I'm guessing for your console):
The hard part is to inject (flashing of the modchip) [If you happen to be running D2CKey, D2CPro, D2Pro, Wiiktus, Argon, Infectus2 etc..even Wasabi has got flaw in its firmware/hardware logic..]
To know what modchip you have in the system, you've got to open up your wii console set (not with your usual Philip screwdriver or flat-head screwdriver, but with a triwig screw driver. ) A word of caution: Please get someone to open for you if you're familiar with the layout of the wii, else you break the casing. |

Total SGC$: 145.34 | Re: wii firmware update query Haiyoh, you should have said earlier mah... Wiikey is very easy to update and maintain wiikey.
Since you're on firmware 3.0U, i do not think you can play Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, SSBB or the Mario Kart Wii. (Games are release in chronologically order and if updated accordingly, you will not have problems playing them...)
There are actually 2 kinds of firmware to maintain (as your console is modded), the main firmware is the wii console set and also the modchip firmware.
For unmodded wii console owners, they'd only have to update the current machine firmware will do.
As for modded wii console, on top of the usual console firmware update, there's also the firmware update. If I'm not wrong, your wiikey firmware is 1.9b (of which you may wanna update to v1.9s, you can skip v1.9g). The updates are simple, download the files and burn onto DVD and run the update.
Find out more information from here.
Oh yeah, since your console is NTSC-U, i suppose you'd wana play your Metroid Prime 3 (NTSC-U) game right? It's safe to update the wii console (either via gamedisc or online through Nintendo servers). If fails/corrupted, you may end up with dual news/weather channels (this is a result of updating the console with a gamedisc from other region not meant for your console.) One word of caution: Whenever you're performing a firmware update, make sure your power supply is plugged in and do not disturb or unplug the power supply (15% trick) [If not sure, do not perform the 15% trick or risk bricking your console]. This may corrupt the memory of the wii console or the memory of the wiikey, thus bricking it for good.
Hope the above information helps. |

Total SGC$: 145.34 | Re: wii firmware update query You'll need both files (for NTSC-U), 1 is the firmware update to v1.9s and the other is the config disc (to turn on region-free, reading speed of the wii console, developer mode etc...)
Best is to update your wii console to play MP3 (Metriod Prime 3) then update your wiikey accordingly. |

anyway i also read that metroid 3 runs on an update of 2.2...however my wii is currently in 3.0U...why is it tat i still have to do an update? is it because the game disc is of a diff region? since it is non original...is there any way to find out the region of non original games? now im quite skeptical on playing this...haha...

A quarter through updating the console, there was a error message stating that conection lost or something, then after that, my console displayed ver3.2U, so has the console been updated totally or do I have to re-update it? |

If you would like to confirm if the update is complete, maybe you would like to start the update process again? If everything in you system is updated to the latest version (as with Nintendo servers), it'd display nothing to be updated.
Minor revisions (build differences) are not being displayed in the 3.2U. Check if you can enter the WiiWare channel (to go online), if can, it means your system is updated to latest as at 21 April 2008.
Cheers!

An update of firmware to wii console is will not brick your wii unless you plug out the power supply during update. |

I do not remember seeing game updates on Mario Party 8 (maybe my wii console was already updated when I played Mario Party 8).
SSBB (JAP) is a great game and also update disc for NTSC-J wii console. It'd update the wii console to only 3.1J. I got my 3.2J using the online Nintendo servers.
As for the firmware of your wiikey (if i remember correctly), the latest version is 1.9s. The files are actually on torrent site and you'd require a torrent manager to download it.
a) Download the disc images (Both update and the config disc)
b) Burn out the update (v1.9s) first, run it on your wii (just like game) and follow onscreen instructions.
c) Burn out the config disc as well and run the disc.
d) Turn off developer mode (or block gamedisc updates).
Have fun! |
