haha i oso dun really noe.. i juz move hse last yr oso dun hv this tradition to throw a hse warming..

Hmm... think mostly is to have a gathering ba.... to let friends or relatives to come over to your new house and 'furnish' them... To have fun together, and to bring up the 'live' of the house... =)

my mom told me that house warming can help to get rid to 'ying qi' (evil) in the house as human is 'yang qi'.
A seach in the web, found that from feng shui aspects, organize a 'house-warming' party with the presence of guests would bring favourable 'Yang/Sheng Qi' to the house. house warming is when u move to a new house .
den invite ur frens relatives come and take a look at ur new house also at the same time know how to go to ur new hse bah .

For those non believers most probably just to show your house etc like what many said.
However some religion believes that house warming will get rid of any unwanted things inside whether is it spiritual things etc.
