Re: Werid encounters when sleepin I've my own fair share of such encounters and have actually tested on myself how to experience such things. There are 2 types of encounters that I've discovered:
1. You've been sleeping through the night. Then it's morning, you want to wake up. You open your eyes and everything around is visible but blurry. Then you move, but you find that you're pinned to the bed. Sometimes you see blackness, but sometimes everything is clear. You're scared.
2. You've been studying, playing, or exercising since early in the morning. It's night time, and you're about to sleep. Normally when you sleep, you don't know when your mind actually shuts down and you sleep. But this time, your eyes are forced closed and you feel your head is spinning as if it was shutting down totally. You're scared.

Explanation for (1):
I've experimented this, my mum too. She told me about it first, and said it was the devil pressing on her, and she got rid of it by just praying hard. She's a Christian by the way.
However, I told her something even more remarkable, and true. When I experienced it, I was spread-eagled, lying flat on my bed, I actually felt so subordinated by this "force" that pressed on me. But I have a large ego that forces me to battle against anything that I fear. Instead of feeling "powerless" and "unable to move", I gathered all my strength and kek all my muscles at once, jumping out of my bed like some robot, and standing on the floor, still in the position with my arms n legs open wide. Then I was awake and ready for the new day. The feeling was marvellous, it was like sending a spark of electricity through the body (though it ached terribly after that!).
A few more times and I gathered what had been the cause:
My brain had awoken before my body, and the head was the only part of the body that could operate. But even so, it operated quite weakly, hence the blurry image of the surroundings. Those of you who saw blackness, is because your brain had not started up your eyes. (Think Windows startup - programs open 1 by 1)
My ability to jump out of bed was a force of neurological (scientists see this as neutrons a.k.a. brain electricity/battery, whatever you choose to call it) charge zipping through the nerves, providing the body with what we call "life".
Don't worry those who can't jump out of bed like I do. I was just scared. But be assured if you have nothing wrong with your health, you should be able to wake up normally. This is because the brain just needs to take time to send these neurological charges into your nerves. My "pumping" the charges actually accelerates the despoiling of my body heh!

Explanation for (2):
Forget this, you're just too damn tired. Go to sleep, it's not some demon trying to possess you. Although you may be inclined to think so, don't be worried. I've been there a lot of times.

P.S.: The opposite of (1) is equal to the body waking before the brain does. In such circumstances, there is sleep-walking.
