A LOT of people i see on the mrt usually just bo chap to senior citzens/pregnant ladies standing in front of them. Some even go as far as to rush into the train, pushing others so that they can get a seat! ridiculous. |

Though I would say our Singaporean culture has something to do with it. We have long foregone courtesy in a bid for our selfish aims. There are of course, exceptions, but sometimes these kind individuals do not get the thanks they deserve. |

In the uniform get paid 24 hours to serve the community lets say if the pay was like 5000 a month maybe people will let their seat of those that are more in need of the seats. |

Being a Generation Y myself i can see where these complaints
are founded upon. The Baby-Boomer generation had a strict and
tough upbringing and thus a more follow the rules approach.
But the truth is that courtesy and morale values are degrading
around the world due to the many changes. Whoes at fault isit
upbringing? isit Globalisation? isit Media?
What i think should be done?
Parents take time to be with their kids when they are young show
them that giving up seats to others is being sensible.
When has Moral Education been more important then double/
triple science classes ?
Lastly don't judge or be over critical that young adults should
always give their seats up because there are many who do
without getting their due recognition. |

Saw this reply from public today on ST. | Quote: | | | Originally Posted by ST Forum 31 May | | | | | I FIND it unfair that school children and military personnel in uniform have been criticised for not giving up train seats for the 'more deserving'.
Just because they are in uniform and they take public transport does not mean that they should perpetually be showing public chivalry by offering their seats to others.
It seems that many people feel it is imperative that once one is in uniform in public, one must take on an air steward-like persona. I think this is over the top. In fact, many of the elderly are not that much physically less abled than us so much so that they need to be seated. Many of them rush into the trains for seats once the doors open. Aren't they more inconsiderate by not letting passengers disembark first?
Even though students pay significantly less for transport, it does not mean that they should enjoy less comfort while travelling. As for military personnel, we must note they are serving our nation, in essence, all of us, yet they are not given public recognition. We should acknowledge and appreciate their sacrifices for us.
After rigorous schooling or intensive training, they would naturally feel exhausted, just like us after a hard day's work. Why should people take issue with students who, after all, are the 'future of our nation' or soldiers who uphold our 'national sovereignty'? They are fundamentally as Singaporean as all of us and should be treated with the same amount of respect and conferred equal rights. Instead, the public should be more gracious towards others.
