Default Uniform lack of public courtesy? Who to blame?

NBzzz..... the more I read, the more I TL.........

AS A 61-year-old commuter who gives up his seat to more deserving passengers, it saddens me to see able-bodied young men in uniform chatting away merrily or pretending to be asleep when they are seated right in front of pregnant women, parents and grandparents with infants in their arms, the infirm or senior citizens.
Shouldn't our uniformed agencies inculcate some basic values into their members?

Why is this happening in spite of the courtesy campaigns?

I've heard tourists commenting that in their countries, their uniformed personnel are proud to stand up for their units and their nation.

What do the authorities have to say?

Lol you can't always blame the uniform agencies... Sometimes its just the person himself.
Its true that when you are in uniform you got to behave appropriately, thats y when I wear my uniform I always stand instead of sitting down, even legs numb or got alot of empty seats, I would die die stand.

Actually I think there's always black sheep in everything.
This is too generalise to pin point to uniform grp esp stating that the uniformed agencies din inculcate some basic values into their members.
This so call "courtesy" should be applied to all able-bodied young men, and I will blame it on parent's upbringing.

ZZZzzzzz Who is this James kwok? He has a mother to teach him manners? How does he comes to the conclusion that people are pretending to be asleep? Define pretending pls. What if what he heard is not true? This one also have to bother authorities ah? So pass a legislation on this? Com'on man, don't be a baby. Sometimes they just didn't see someone in need. So must we be full alert when we take the public transport so that we can ALWAYS give up our seats? Someone snatch my sweets, I go crying back home to my dad. Hopeless singaporean.

school's education.
The school is where we learn about all these things. With the correct guidance, i suppose lesser of these will happen.

i think your morals and values play a part here

mindset 1: i paid for the ride, i got on first, so why shouldnt i sit. old people, so what? there are handles and grabpoles...

its not really wrong to say someone young is wrong for not giving up a seat...

mindset 2: give up the seat as its basic courtesy towards someone who may need it more than you, also see as a chivarlous action..

mindset 3: what if i give up my seat and he/she says its ok, no need, and refuses to take? after all singaporean 'want face'.. what if i stand up to give, the person doesnt want, and in the process someone else go sit?

there you go.. pick one..
