Thumbs down TWO STATES, TWO VIOLENT CRIMES - Too little loot, so robbers whack

ONE man was slashed with a parang in front of his family. Another man was stomped on.

These violent acts took place during separate robberies that happened around the same time across two Malaysian states.

At about 3.30am on Saturday, Mr Wan Sukri Wan Abu Bakar, 39, was attacked by four men as he was checking the engine of his car, which was parked outside his house.

The tour agent, whose wife and four children were already in the car, was about to drive off from his house in Selangor to his family's village in Johor for the weekend.

MASKED MEN

The four men, who wore masks, appeared out of nowhere, reported Harian Metro.

One of the robbers slashed him with a parang, slicing his scalp and nearly severing his left index finger.

Mr Wan Sukri fell to the ground in pain, and the masked men kicked and punched him.

They demanded money and took his wallet containing RM500 ($215).

Stunned, his wife and children were too afraid to open the car door.

Instead, they locked themselves in.

The robbers shouted at the family and threatened to harm them if they did not open it.

Frightened, Mrs Ainatul Mardziah Abdul Rahman, 41, opened the door.

Mrs Ainatul said: 'I told them that I had no money on me, but two of the robbers kept shouting threatening words at me, about how they will kill us all if we don't surrender our money.

'The situation became so chaotic with my children screaming in the back seat in fear.'

But it was probably her children's screams that saved her family.

She added: 'My neighbour probably heard the commotion. He switched on his lights and walked to his gate to see what was going on. Seeing that, all four robbers ran away.'

The four were believed to have fled into a getaway car nearby.

Mr Wan Sukri was rushed to hospital where he underwent a four-hour operation for his head injury. His condition is now stable.

Around the same time, several kilometers away in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, an elderly man was set upon by three robbers in his house.

Mr Lim Yok Tong, 74, who lives alone, said he woke up at 3.30am that Saturday morning to go to the bathroom but heard noises outside his house, reported the New Straits Times.

He ignored them.

But when he returned to his room, he saw three men there.

He told NST: 'They bound my hands and legs and stuffed my mouth with a towel.'

The men ransacked the house but did not find any loot.

So they took the RM200 in his wallet and another RM100 which was in a hongbao. They also took Mr Lim's gold ring.

Still not satisfied with their takings, they began stomping on his back.

Said Mr Lim: 'After about 40 minutes, all three left. I was in pain.'

Mr Lim managed to call his friend for help. He was then sent to the Tuanku Ja'afar hospital where he was warded with broken ribs.

Police have classifed both cases as voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery, and are investigating.
