for your budget of 45, go to bangkok city suite, if not then samran place.. its at the beginning of petchaburi road (soi 1 and 7 respectively), which is where pratunam wholesale market is, platinum fashion mall and pantip for IT stuff. room rates are $40 i think. these places are nice enough and clean, alot of singaporeans too. bkk city suite is relatively new, like 3 years old only.
asia hotel and baiyoke would be over your budget.
backpacker inns on khao san only if you're sure you can rough it out. your gf might not be too keen on that. had some german friends who stayed at this backpackers that was cockroach infested. and the mercenary owner actually reaped them off of $60 to do some laundry. &#)*%&@)*&#@

Bunnygirl mention Samran Place, the location is good. buses to MBK, Siam Paragon etc are just at the doorstep. (feedback from tripadvisor)
if u wan cheaper rates, i guess khao San Road area got lotsa backpacker lodges. D&D Inn good quite a number of good comments. approx. THB600.
and if you wan cheaper and nt a nt very run down lodges, increase ur budget. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

Plan to travel to Ayuttaya on the following Monday.
Anyway, Samran is a nice and budget hotel, walking distance to BTS around 10min. Just renovated last year so the hotel should be relatively new and 1 night is around $50 - $55 (May is still peak season) so hotel rates are slightly higher than normal. For much much lower rate, Khaosan has them but condition is so so only. Anywhere in the central area near Siam Square will cost much higher rate.
Chinatown sharkfin is so so too. I went Nan Xing and all I can say, real quality but not up to my standard. |

Thanks! | | | | | Yea, stayed twin tower before. Nice and spacious room. Staffs were very professional too except for the waiting time to check in. Boring Breakfast.
Night market: Suan Lum, Patpong etc.
Food: Everywhere but you have to accustomed to their local taste bud. Everything is so spicy, sweet, raw. Can try their famous Som Tam (the locals like it so much) but I never like it thou.......
Massage: Can find almost anywhere, those traditional thai massage, foot massage. There's 2 just opposite Twin Tower, just walk across the main road facing the entrance and you will see 1 on the left and 1 on the right.
If you want to experience the nightlife, can go to the discos located at RCA (mostly local Uni students) or Ratchada (more mature crowds), and I like Baryan Tree Disco at Ratchada.
There's a indoor go-kart track too but I can't remember the area.Night time, can recommend you go take a walk around Siam Square. Very nice with all the lighting on the shops (all the young hippie thai gals and guys will be there) and Central World area. And can go to Baiyoke Sky tower observation deck to view Bangkok nice scenery, located on the 80+ level of the hotel. Or go catch a muay thai match at one of their boxing stadiums, if going Suan Lum, Lumpinee stadium is just beside it (got 1 souvenior shop outside the stadium, can buy boxing gloves, mini keychain, T-shirts).

About government selling this at subsidised price to local students studying overseas. Telling you about how lucky you are because this particular or that particular temple only open today and you are so damn lucky to be able to visit it. Or asking you to visit this shop that shop to help them get diesel vouchers.
All these are just scams, they often stage the show so nicely that you will believe it but if you are smart, you will see thru it before they are able to go thru 1/2 of the show.
And sometimes, spending abit more to get you safely to your destination or without wasting your precious time is very worth it than trying to save or bargain a few baht. Don't be too happy that you can bargain down your fare cos the thais are smart people. |

for the budget you stated, you might want to visit http://www.hostelworld.com for accommodation. They have a rating system which I trust and I've booked a few good guesthouses and hostels through them before.
I also want to affirm the suggestion not to take the tuktuk. Rip offs, those fellas. Take the cab but insist on the meter before you get into one.

That price quite abit steeper than what I paid when i came to the airport from my hotel >_<. next time go i take the airport express liao... |

For branded goods, you can go to Central Chitlom and Siam Paragon. For the fashion scene similar to Bugis, there's always Siam Square. Platinum Mall is a must-go. The entire building is full of clothes, accessories, shoes and bags. All of them at least half the price sold in SG if you buy "wholesale" (which usually means at least 2 or 3 items from the same shop). So shop with girl friends is the best! |
