Boy's skull cracked, now in coma

HIS fun turned into a near-fatal nightmare.

A 16-year-old is in a coma after being hit with a metal spade - apparently for creating a din with his friends, reported the New Straits Times (NST).

Ahmad Faizlan Yusof was allegedly attacked by a man at the Immigration Department residential quarters in Alor Star, Kedah, on Monday night.


The man, in his 30s, was said to have been furious with the group of noisy teenagers who had gathered near his house.

Faizlan's mother, Madam Masita Ramli, 38, told NST that her son had left their house, which is 500m from where the attack took place, on his bicycle at about 8pm to discuss some schoolwork with his friends.

'I was at home at the time and about 11/2 hours later, I was informed that Faizlan had been attacked,' she said.

In an interview with Harian Metro on Tuesday, she said her son, a Secondary 4 student, was talking on his handphone when he was whacked across his back, legs and head by the spade-wielding man until he was unconscious.

She believed that her son had paused on his way home to chat with some boys on motorcycles.

'The motorcycles were making a lot of noise which might have irritated the assailant. But my son was not among them as he was riding a bicycle,' said Madam Masita.

'It's hard to believe that he (the assailant) would hit my son with a metal spade when my son did nothing.'

She added in the interview with Harian Metro: 'My son and his friends hang out in the area very often but have never upset any residents until now.'

Madam Masita said doctors told her that Faizlan had a cracked skull. He has undergone two operations to remove blood clots in his brain.

Faizlan, the second of three siblings, has yet to regain consciousness at press time and is warded at the Alor Star Hospital.

The NST report added that the Kubang Pasu District police chief Superintendent Mohd Karim Abu has confirmed the assault, and warned the public not to take the law into their own hands.

He said the police were investigating the case under Section 326 of the penal code for causing grievous hurt with a dangerous object.

They are also looking for the alleged assailant.
