Total SGC$: 1,130.85 | Toastmaster, anyone? Toastmaster club is meant to improve your effective speaking skills, how to deliver a speech etc. See here for further details: http://toastmasters.org.sg/wp/?page_id=4
Anybody is a member of Toastmaster club? If I'm not wrong, unis do have such clubs as well, correct? For those who are members, able to share how the training is like?
Coz I would like to hear some personal experiences from real members. Pros n Cons preferably? How do they train their members? Are they friendly/helpful? Or isit more like a debate session most of the time? Afterall joining them requires a yearly fee of $300 wor, dun joke.
Hope my thread can help others as well. Its good to train your speaking/presentation skills. :mellow3: |

Counter your stage fear. Makes you think and analyse. Have your own opinions. Increase your confidence etc.
The rest, am I correct? |

The one TS said required $300. it really depend on what is your objective of joining such clubs. For me, its to get a platform to speak in front of a large crowd.
Initially, that was my idea....But after I joined, more things happen....Within 5 months, I became their Exco member....I also din know how wide TMC network is until I become a member. They have regular competitions, and conferences in various part of the world. (Singapore got about 2 competitions a year. If you are good, you can compete with people around the region)
As for the training, yes, its a process because you get to complete 10 projects, move to advance projects and have to finish 15 more before you can be certified as a Distinguish Toastmaster. The highest honor in TMC (its a cert too) not just simply stand there and talk.
I do urge people who are keen to improve their speaking abilities and confidence to come and take a look at how each meeting is run.
I will be doing another speech this coming meeting on the 6th of Aug. (can support support) PM me to let me know if you want to come. Cheers. For a start: New members will be given a Member's manual from the States. You also will receive monthly TMC mag from the States. Inside there will be an overview of all the projects you need to undergo.
Basic: 10 projects
The first 3 projects you can use notes, but after which, its recommended you dont.
Advanced(bronze) 5 projects
Advance (silver) 5 projects
Advance (gold) 5 projects Advance
After completion of gold you will be a Distinguish Toastmasters.
Actually, after you completed your basic aka Competent Communicator projects, you will be given a cert.
As you advance, you will collect a total of 3 more certs. Meetings
For TMCS, we meet every first and 3rd Mon of the month.
All club structure and ways of running the meeting is the same. However, the people you meet varies and the culture also different.
For my club, we have people from all over the world. Canada, States, India etc. But one thing is for sure, the people you meet will make you realize how 'little' you know about life.
My advice is, if you are keen on joining one of these clubs, hop ard until you find a club that you are comfortable with. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.
