Actually there's a process in studying.
1. When you bought the textbooks, reference books and/or notes, browse through the content page and get an idea why the chapters or topics are arranged/categorised in that order. Then browse through the pages of the books/notes (start with Learning Objectives, the Summary, then the contents in more detail) to briefly know what to expect to study for the year or semester. Pay attention how these chapters & topics are linked to 1 another. It will help a lot in understanding, appreciating and building up your memory capacity/power.
2. Browse through the chapter or topic to be covered in class in your textbook, notes or references before the day/night before the class to understand briefly the contents and note the questions and doubts you have. At this stage, the Learning Objectives and Summary will help you a lot in seeing the big picture.
3. Listen during class. Understand on a deeper level as the teacher explains. Clarify the questions and doubts you have noted the night before.
4. Go through the contents again, enforcing what you have learnt. Ensure you have cleared your doubts and the facts, info, details are linked smoothly.
5. Check against the Learning Objectives that you have all the important areas covered and able to summarise what you have learnt on your own either in words or in graphical form (Mind Map etc)
6. Do the homework or attempt basic questions, master the basic facts & techniques before moving on to application questions.
7. Revise, refresh, reinforce what you have learnt and the linkage to other topics.
*It's good to revise/refresh what you have learnt during the day at night, 1 hour before you sleep. Then relax and sleep. Next day, browse through again in the morning when you are very fresh. ** This is very impt: Identify your learning style. Are you Manipulative, Visual/Audio or Abstract oriented?
Manipulative - need objects to assist in visualising and seeing the effects, also the very hands-on/practical type
Visual/Audio - need diagrams, pictures, videos, sounds etc to assist in absorbing & learning the contents
Abstract - Words, numbers, symbols, verbal explanations and concepts are only required for people who are oriented to this style. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
