Thus indeed, is that Blessed One: He is the Holy One, fully enlightened, endowed with clear vision and virtuous conduct, sublime, the Knower of the worlds, the incomparable leader of men to be tamed, the teacher of gods and men, enlightened and blessed.

But on a higher level, yes it can ward off evil spirit. But we shouldnt focus too much on these. It seems to me that buddhism sometimes has turned into quite a mystical belief, that many actually follow mystic rather than the real words of buddha. It is not that they are wrong, but sometimes theres a need to balance philosophy and mystical aspect.
In TIbet, there is much focus on rituals and tantric practices such as empowerment and so on. This is not wrong. But if one doesnt have the foundation of buddhist teaching and its philosophy, it can go wrong. Sakyamuni Buddha himself is said to focus more on moral teachings and seeking truth rather than rituals and other stuffs. But of course, there is certainly mystic in buddhism. There are celestial buddhas like amitabha and guan yin and so on.

When this mantra usually be used? | | | | | This is a very powerful mantra praising the virtues of the Lord Buddha. Like any other chants or prayers, in order for the it to be powerful, one must believe in its powers and must chant with concentrated mind. One must not also be a evil-hearted person wishing harm to others. Once one starts to chant this mantra every day, one will see its good effects over time. How fast one sees the results vary from person to person.
This mantra is good for daily chant and its purpose is to invoking blessings for oneself. |

The mantra is written as "Yant Kropetch" but when you read the wordings of the mantra, it is actually the Itipiso mantra.
However, according to a famous Thai Amulet magazine writer by the name of "Lek Watruak", he claimed that Yant Kropetch is derived by the vertical reading of the mantra Itipiso. Yant Kropetch or the Mantra of the Diamond Shield was founded by the late Luang Phor Parn of Wat Bang Nom Kho, Ayuthaya province in B.E. 2458 while he was making a pilgrimage to Suphanburi province. |
