It was Mr Muhammad Zaid Abdul Razak's first day on a new job but it also turned out to be his last.
The 18-year-old died after his motorcycle was hit by a car while he was delivering food for Canadian Pizza on Monday evening.
It was last delivery for the day.
The car, driven by a man in his late 40s, was turning at a signalised junction from Yio Chu Kang Link toward Yio Chu Kang Road when it hit the rider.
Mr Muhammad Zaid suffered serious spinal injuries and was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10.20pm.
He had worked for Pizza Hut for about month before joining Canadian Pizza on Monday.
The teenager finished his electronics engineering course at the Institute of Technical Education last year and was waiting to be enlisted into National Service in April.
At the mortuary to collect his body, his father Mr Abdul Razak, 51, a taxi driver, said on Tuesday: 'He just passed and got his motorcycle licence around Hari Raya Puasa last year.'
Mr Abdul Razak said Zaid was the youngest of three children. He had two other siblings, a brother aged 26 and a sister, 22.
According to a friend who wanted to be known only as Mohamad, Zaid's parents, although deeply saddened, have 'come to terms with the reality of what happened.'
At the wake held at En-Naeem Mosque in Hougang near his home, family members and friends described Zaid as 'kind, and always had a ready smile for everyone.'
Said Mr Ismail Sapari, a council member on the mosque's management board: 'Of all my youths, he was one of the best. Whenever we held events, he would be the first one to volunteer.'
The teenager was buried at the Muslim cemetery in Choa Chu kang on Tuesday afternoon.
The driver of the car is helping police with investigations.
