SGC$: 535.65 Bank: 0.00 Total SGC$: 535.65 | LONDON - SAM Allardyce became the latest example of Premier League impatience on Wednesday when he 'parted company' with Newcastle United after half a season with the club. Allardyce becomes the eighth Premier League manager to leave this season and Newcastle's fourth in four years. Former Newcastle and England striker and now TV analyst Alan Shearer has been immediately installed as favourite to replace him despite having nil coaching experience. In a statement, Newcastle said the decision had been reached by mutual agreement but earlier in the day Allardyce spoke to the media about team matters and told Sky Sports that if he was leaving it was 'news to me.' 'A new manager has not yet been appointed. We will make a further announcement on the managerial position when appropriate,' said club chairman Chris Mort. Allardyce said: 'I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle United but I wish the club all the best for the remainder of the season and for the future.' Assistant coach Nigel Pearson will take charge of the team for Saturday's match at champions Manchester United - the shining example of continuity with Alex Ferguson into his 22nd year in charge despite winning nothing in his first four years at Old Trafford. Allardyce leaves after only 24 games following his appointment on a three-year contract last year. The 53-year-old former centre back leaves the club 11th in the standings and facing an FA Cup third round replay with second division Stoke City. The former Bolton Wanderers boss was appointed by the club's previous owners and though new owner Mike Ashley had spoken out publicly in support, he also referred to the man 'we inherited' and locally there was always a feeling that the new regime might want to install their own man. England job Allardyce, who was interviewed for the England manager's job after the departure of Sven-Goran Eriksson but lost out to Steve McClaren, had repeatedly brushed off speculation that his future was in doubt, even after sections of the Newcastle crowd turned on him during recent poor performances. Over the Christmas and New Year period Newcastle lost three of their four league games, scrambling a point from a draw with bottom club Derby County. Speculation was rife that defeat by Stoke would be the end but a goalless away draw left the situation unchanged until Wednesday's announcement. The level of expectation at Newcastle, who have not won a major domestic honour for more than half a century, has proved the undoing of a host of big name managers in recent years. Ossie Ardiles, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Ruud Gullit, Bobby Robson, Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder all arrived full of hope but only Keegan got close to satisfying demand with his exciting side of the mid-1990s, who went agonisingly close to a first league title since 1927. Allardyce follows the earlier departures of Jose Mourinho (Chelsea), Sammy Lee - his successor at Bolton - Martin Jol (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Hutchings (Wigan Athletic), Steve Bruce (Birmingham City) Billy Davies (Derby County) and Lawrie Sanchez (Fulham). -- REUTERS http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2...ry_194753.html Finally Big Sam give up liao & has part way with Newcastle, he has been pressured all the way by the fans. |

SGC$: 185.80 Bank: 0.00 Total SGC$: 185.80 | WOOTS, sam suck la, Newcastle have talent but cant win games because he thinks Newcastle is like Bolton. Newcastle players have individual skill like Chelsea's players. Unlike Bolton or arsenal that can play "beautiful attacking" football that sam fancy the most. Jose mourinho should take over! |

SGC$: 535.65 Bank: 0.00 Total SGC$: 535.65 | Keegan makes dramatic return to Newcastle Kevin Keegan has made a dramatic return to Newcastle after being appointed as the Premier League club's new manager on Wednesday. Former England and Manchester City boss Keegan, who managed the club from 1992 to 1997, will return to St James' Park as Sam Allardyce's successor. "Kevin Keegan is returning to Newcastle United as manager," a statement on their website confirmed. Keegan's appointment is a sensational twist after Newcastle's search for the right man to replace Allardyce seemed destined to pile more embarrassment on the beleaguered club. They had already been snubbed by Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp and Gerard Houllier, French football's technical director, before being linked with Didier Deschamps and Mark Hughes. Those rejections may have played a role in owner Mike Ashley and chairman Chris Mort's decision to turn to such a populist choice as Keegan, who remains a Newcastle legend after his spells as player and manager. The 56-year-old saved the club from relegation to English football's third tier and then presided over the most entertaining spell in the club's history. He took Newcastle to promotion back to the top flight in 1993 and came close to winning the league title in the 1995-96 season when they famously led Manchester United by 12 points before finishing as runners up - a collapse that inspired Keegan's infamous "I'd love it if we beat them" outburst about Sir Alex Ferguson's side. He went on to manage Fulham, England and Manchester City but has been out of the game since leaving City in 2005 after a largely unsuccessful spell. Keegan - whose cavalier style of football was certainly more of a crowd pleaser for the demanding Magpies fans than the kick and rush in Allardyce's short reign - was not expected to be at Wednesday's FA Cup third round replay against Stoke but he should be in charge for Saturday's Premier League clash at home to Bolton. Kevin Keegan, seen here in 2000, has made a dramatic return to Newcastle after being appointed as the Premier League club's new manager on Wednesday. Keegan and Alan Shearer - the club's former skipper who had recently been linked to the job - were regarded as the dream ticket for Newcastle fans and even if former England striker Shearer doesn't return as Keegan's assistant, the news will lift a fanbase who were starting to lose faith with their club. The impact was immediate as fans started to queue around St James' Park to snap up the remaining tickets for the Stoke replay. Mark Jensen, editor of Newcastle fanzine The Mag, expects Keegan to lure the kind of star players who can return the club to their title-challenging era of the mid-1990s. "The important thing to remember is that this is just the start," Jensen said. "Having Kevin Keegan back is very much the first building block in what could be a very successful Newcastle United. "Keegan can attract players and what he didn't have before was the backing behind him. For a short time he did, but this time he has Mike Ashley behind him and I think that is about the best thing that has happened to Newcastle." Former Newcastle defender Warren Barton, who played under Keegan, believes the appointment will prove a turning point for a team without a win in six matches. "It's a season to remember already - he's come back," Barton said. "A UEFA Cup spot is a possibility. If I was in the dressing room and he walked in, that would give me a lift. Since Sir Bobby Robson, the managers haven't realised what the club is about. "But Kevin will know what it means - he'll have learnt from his time at England, Fulham and Manchester City and it's fantastic news for the club." Bobby Moncur, a former Newcastle defender who played for the club in the 1960s and 1970s, added: "I'm delighted he's coming back because we need a big man - someone to lift the whole place. Kevin is the man to do just that. "He was the Messiah when he came here. They were everyone's second-best loved team with the football they played." Whether Keegan can work his magic on Newcastle for a second time remains to be seen, but it is certain to be an eventful ride. http://news.asianbookie.com/news.cfm?id=16619 Finally the struggle to find a new manager for weeks is over. last night FA cup replay Newcastle trash stoke 4-1 will bring some confident to the toon army With this weekend BPL playing on home with Bolton, its lookS toon army is kicking back. Let hope keegan will not be booted out again. |

SGC$: 21.82 Bank: 1,251.25 Total SGC$: 1,273.07 | Keegan is a good choice, fans favourite. But the main problem for the Magpies is the board must learn to be abit patient, abit only sack like that how to build up a good team. If they really want instant success take out 300M to sign quality players. Last edited by Delardino : 17-01-2008 at 12:05 PM. |

Wes Brown, Defoe, SWP, Downing Keen To Join Keegan A report in The Sun claims that Jermain Defoe and Shaun Wright-Phillips are both keen to join up with Kevin Keegan at Newcastle. The Telegraph suggest that Wes Brown could also be on the way in. The Keegan revolution has begin at Tyneside, and players from over the Premiership are lining up to join him. The Toon legend has made it clear that there will be new players coming in as he looks to shake things up, or to use Mike Ashley's words, do things his way. “If new players are coming in and you are worried about that then you should not be here," he said. "You should want good players at this football club.” Armed with what is supposed to be a £20million budget for the next two weeks, he is keen to make at least two new signings. A Newcastle insider told The Sun: “It wasn’t like a big speech by the manager or anything but it sounded like he would be making a few changes. “With only a couple of weeks left in the transfer window, he has not really got time to assess what is already there. He has to make some quick decisions.” Wright-Phillips and Defoe are both unsettled at their respective clubs, and looking for regular football, and are this morning being linked with a move to Tyneside. Defoe has struggled under both Martin Jol and Juande Ramos, and is supposedly close to completing a move to Aston Villa. However, he now prefers to move to Tyneside, and will wait to see if there is concrete interest. Meanwhile Shaun-Wright Phillips - while having had some good games recently - is aware that he is not Avram Grant's first choice, and will once again be warming the bench in February, once Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou return from Ghana. Under the circusmstances, the lure of Kevin Keegan and regular first team football could prove too strong. Wages could be a concern, as could the transfer fees given that Newcastle are not keen to break the bank this month, but there have been suggestions that they could even sign one of the two players on loan until the end of the season. And More... The Daily Mail suggests that Keegan actually has a £30million budget, with a furtger £60million to be made available in the summer, which could well make the club the biggest spenders of 2008. The Telegraph also quotes a figure of £90million between now and the summer, and throws Manchester United's Wes Brown into the fray. Various other reports link Sol Campbell, Richard Dunne and Stewart Downing wil moves to Tyneside. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
