Total SGC$: 24,266.47 | SMRT to roll out green buses SMRT to roll out green buses
By MARIA ALMENOAR
SMRT has pledged to go green on Wednesday, with the news that they will launch the first Euro V bus in South-east Asia into service by the middle of next month.
Another 66 Euro V buses will replace part of SMRT's fleet between August and December this year.
Currently, authorities here have only set the guideline for 40 per cent of buses here to be Euro IV compliant by 2010.
Euro V buses emit even less greenhouse gases than their Euro IV counterparts.
SMRT also said that they were introducing 200 taxis which will run on compressed natural gas and 100 taxis which meet the Euro IV emission standards. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2...ry_232620.html To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. price rise will come soon.
becos of the rasing oil prices.
if you're on the street, taking a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) taxi (not the Merc type, but the Honda Airwave and etc) will cost cheaper than that of a Diesel Taxi.
ps: That time the taxi price increase, the CNG Cabs were not affected as they're running on GAS, not Oil. (:
wells. some info,
1. SBSTransit had brought 500 single deck wheelchair accessible buses (Scania K230UB) which are under Euro 4 emission standards. its now a common sight in Singapore.
2. SMRT just launched its newly brought Mercedes Benz OC500LE (66 units) single deck wheelchair buses which are under Euro 5 emission standards. By end of the month, SMRT will have it on revenue service.
3. SBSTransit had gotten 2 demonstrator buses from Volvo (Volvo B7RLE) & MAN (MAN 18.240 HOCL-NL) for evaluation purposes. the Volvo had been registered as SBS8030L and its on service 174/174E currently, the MAN, is currently at one of the SBSTransit's depot, waiting for a registration plate. Both are Low floor single deck wheelchair accessible buses.
4. SBSTransit is the only Public Bus provider who has a fleet of 10 Compressed Natural Gas buses in Singapore. All were bodied by Australian bus body maker, Volgren, and its Volvo B10BLE (CNG) chassis from Sweden. All 10 buses are on service on Service 66, 93, 105, 143, 242, 243 and bears the Registration number from SBS2988M - SBS2997L.. All 10 are Low floor buses. ps: yes, that new company kept its CNG Taxi at $2.40 still.
wells. we're depleting our earth resources (oil especially), thats why we're paying a high price.
