Singapore's air quality worsens, PSI hits unhealthy range

SINGAPORE: The haze in Singapore has again hit the unhealthy range, after staying in the good and moderate ranges for nearly a week.
The three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reached 104 to enter the unhealthy range at 7pm Saturday. It climbed further to hit 110 at 8pm.

A PSI level from 0-50 is considered to be in the good range.

Between 51 and 100, the PSI will be in the moderate range while a level from 101-200 is unhealthy.

The worsening in air quality on Saturday is due largely to southeasterly winds bringing more smoke from fires in Kalimantan to Singapore.

And there will be no clear skies ahead in Singapore anytime soon.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) says the prevailing winds are expected to remain southeasterly for another day.

Also, the latest satellite pictures from the NEA present a gloomy outlook.

The pictures showed there were nearly 300 hot spots of fire -- 123 in Sumatra and 157 in Kalimantan to the southeast.

The three-hour PSI had started at 53 - which is in the moderate range - on Saturday morning and deteriorated from noon, climbing up steadily throughout the day.

The haze hit its worst point last Saturday when it registered 150 on the PSI.

That was also the first time when the haze entered the unhealthy range this year. - CNA/ir

I just thought this is interesting, how the haze has increase business for DVD rentals. =)

i don't understand how Indonesia can get angry over Singaporeans' reaction when year after year, they've been creating the same stupid haze problem for us.

do they expect us to just keep mum and live with it?

why don't they solve the problem instead of blaming us? like hello, this is not the 1st time you burn your forest.

reminds me of Malaysia as well..

Today very cham sia, last few days only at night can see the haze, now even afternoon can see the haze liao. >_>

Lots of coughing and sneezing.
