actually I'm fine with it...other countries r doing what they can to counter terrorism...remember the liquid bomb that nearly (or did it happened? can't remember le) got on the aeroplane..?

I sincerely believe it is a good thing...anything that is done with the intention to protect the lives of innocent, I think it's good! :mellow3:

You don't pay much duty (read: taxes) when you buy from duty-free. There are still taxes on them, so the name's actually quite misleading. It's like alcohol from Dubai Duty Free is slightly more expensive than alcohol from Abu Dhabi Duty Free (even though they are both in the same country!), or that alcohol is more expensive in British Duty Free than in say, Singapore Duty Free. But SG Duty Free is still quite expensive IMO.

Best stuff to buy from duty-free:
1) Alcohol (esp. liquors) [got my 1-litre JD for <£10!!]
2) Perfume/cosmetics

I usually buy these 2 nia... maybe you can add chocolate to the list, but only the nice ones. (like Godiva)

daily minimum consumption:
10 pints of beer (lager preferably)
5 shots of whiskey
5 shots of vodka

Yeah. That was in Britain and all planes were grounded. Now walking through British custom makes you feel like a criminal who's just killed the Custom Officer's children and raped his wife. [but it's not as bad as the US' one ]

It's cheaper relative to outside prices. Anyway, perfume cosmetics are not really heavily taxed as alcohol, so you can't expect a significant price drop. The reason I prefer to buy from duty-free is the choice you have in such a small space, and the ability to smell them without pushy sales assistants.

Everytime I'm in transit for some time I'll walk around the perfume area and smell almost everything... my nose can't smell the difference after about half an hour. :biggrin4:

Usually they'll give a warning and ask u to pay some tax at the customs. Unless the tobacco is a lot. It's not surprising they maybe that strict as a lot of people are smuggling tobacco in.

Sorry, mate! For Singaporeans, IIRC, only allowed one opened, unfinished pack of cigarettes to be brought in. The rest will be confiscated and burnt.

For foreigners, same. But they can leave their excess at the Customs Office and collect it when they leave.
