There is a whole street of factory outlets in the st. kilda area...

If the red hill market is open, do go, very good...

lol i can't help you with shopping.

Sorry to hijack this a bit, but there this Hong Kong Cafe in the city that serves huge plates of rice with assorted meats (chinese stuff like duck, chicken, roast pork etc etc), all wrapped up in an equally huge omelette with a brown sauce that you dump all over the rice. Mmmmmm.......

I've had it once, but can't remember where it's located. Definitely within the city. It's cheap too, about AUS10 give or take. Can anyone help? I'll be there soon and crave it.

Anyway wordsmith, do try it if you manage to find it. Gonna need energy for the shopping, right?

Try to google them... I dun have the info with me...

There are a number of markets over the weekend, southbank market, st kilda beach market..

THe red hill market is quite a distance away and you'll prob need to drive there... But these places would be more for handicraft...

Too bad you've missed the post easter sale, usually have quite good discounts....

BTW, you driving? Just be careful of the left hook turns in the city central

Paisay, its the Fitzroy area, there is a clearance street along Smith St. Lots of different store from nike to puma to kathmandu

LOL. Food is important of course! Would be going to Vue de Monde for dinner ... really excited about it, coz it wasn't easy getting a reservation within 1.5 months time.

But yeah, can't be splurging on expensive eats all the time. Apart from the HK Cafe, any cheap eats that you would like to recommend, jencrs?

Yeah, I have plans to visit the Victoria Market and the Prahan Market ... but that's about all the markets I know ... didn't know there are so many other markets~

Just did a Google ... I think the Red Hill market is located at the Mornington Peninsula area ... which is quite a drive away from the city.

Left hook turns? Hmm, I don't drive, but will let my hubby know about that. Thanks We are renting a car for a few days.

As for discount stores, I have heard that I should comb the Richmond area. Now that you have just provided info with regards to the Fitzroy area, that's one more area to look into!

Unfortunately, I've only been there twice, and both times only for a day or so. Really too short for me to explore. I'll be there again first week of may, and I could find out more stuff for you, but i think you would have gone and come back already. haha.

The drive is quite long but the stuff there really good...

I can still remember the rich and yummy chocolate cake...

Think they hold it at the flemington race course sometimes...

If you intend to drive to the great ocean road and back, do be careful cos there are no lights along the highway at night so can be quite dark, so if you are new, just be more careful....

If only 1 driver then try not to go too far cos 1 person drive very tiring

Yeah, we will be on the GOR for 2 days, going to stay over at Lorne so as to break up the drive. There will be three drivers and one passenger (ie. me!). Haha!

My hubby is actually worried about the GOR actually even though I think he's quite a good and safe driver. Perhaps it's because he's not familiar with the roads there. I'm surprised to hear that there are no lights along the highway at night?! ....

lol i'll be there on the 6 may. Too bad. If i find it i'll post it up.

Btw, I've started a thread on food overseas. A link, actually, to a friend's site. But there isn't anything useful on melbourne, don't wanna get your hopes up. I've asked him (the blogger) about the hk cafe there but he doesn't know it either. Still, have a look for future reference.

Its quite normal in OZ and NZ, so for new drivers, take care...

I remember driving quite early in perth one morning and end up seeing a kangaroo

Because of the tram lines in the city central, you'll need to keep left to make a right turn...
