Man dies after being hit by MRT train at Chinese Garden Station
By Melvin Yong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 19 October 2006 0059 hrs

SINGAPORE : A man died after he was hit by a Mass Rapid Transit train at Chinese Garden Station on Wednesday night.

Police said they received a call about the accident at 10.15pm.

The dead man is believed to be a Chinese in his mid-40s.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.45pm.

Police said he was wearing a light-coloured top and dark-coloured shorts.

The case has been classified as unnatural death and police are investigating.

In a statement, SMRT Corp, which runs the East-West line, said westbound and eastbound train services from Jurong East to Boon Lay stations were disrupted from 10.12pm.

About 5,000 passengers were affected.

To maintain services on the unaffected stretches of the East-West line during the incident, trains were turned around at Jurong East Station.

Train services on the North-South Line were not affected.

SMRT said eastbound train services resumed at 11.04 pm, and westbound services were running by 11.15 pm.

The company also deployed buses to ferry passengers from Jurong East Station to Boon Lay Station when train services were disrupted. - CNA/de

People who committed suicide are people who felt totally and utterly useless and when that feeling became so strong, they act on self-destruction.

Committing suicide is a selfish act. People who think death is the only way out of their problems do not care a hoot about their loved ones. If there are debts, the debts are not cancelled because the debtor is dead. Family units break up when a family member commit suicide because everyone feel they are to blame or they accuse each other for the cause of lost of life. Many mothers became mentally ill because a child committed suicide. Very sad and very bad too.

Everyone of us have to go through some kind of problems in life and if we humble ourselves by seeking advice or help, the problems will be resolved. But, if we are too proud to tell others about our problems then there is no resolution.

I feel really sorry for the dead man's family. Now they have to take on all the problems he left behind.

indeed it is MamaRos. selfish... what will happen to his wife and his kids? yes it's poverty that drives him to his doom but there could be better ways i'm sure. like getting bursaries for kids or trying to get help from RC etc.

now he simply ditch all responsibility to take care of the family and say byebye. not only that, he's caused inconvenience for the public, hard work for the cleaners at the station (split into 3! OMG imagine all the stuff that's stuck on the track what abt the driver who hit him? he hasn't done anything wrong yet he'll be haunted by this incident for life... it's unfair to these ppl!

okies i'm not saying that i dun sympathise or he's bad or wat. afterall he's gone and we all wish he's resting in peace now. just that sometimes when we think back... just how many more ppl were affected bcos of one person's suicidal act? i believe we must all learn how to take responsibility of wat we should do and not leave a mess behind for others to clean up after us. and i cannot imagine how his kids and wife will be feel... it must be terrible to go on living with the fact that their dad has forsaken them, committed suicide and split into 3 parts. gosh. (sometimes i wonder how instant or how painful it is, well i always think too much lah... but i nv want to try!)

my dad's income falls from 1.7k to 1k after his retrenchment, and my mum's housewife. after CPF he takes home 800 bucks and he still managed to feed 4 mouths, bring up 2 healthy kids, send them to school, through tertiary education (with his cpf)... well like some of u hv realised in other threads, i really love and respect my dad a lot for always being so loving and responsible despite our financial situation. my parents save and scrimp to give my bro and i a reasonable comfortable life. we never felt poor because the warmth and harmony at home totally surpass the lack of wealth. and then there were these poorer families trying to make ends meet, when some ppl... earning 2k and supporting only ownself still can everyday complain they dun hv enough $$$ to use. i feel ashame of them.

anyway my bro took 1+hr longer than usual to reach home cos he's stuck in the train behind that one that hit this guy. and eeeek!! why i always so long-winded one?! *faints*

Blame it on the government, the government not doing enough to help these people. Instead, the LEEs sue here, sue there. They should spend more of their time helping the needy

LOL i nv blame the govt one leh... in fact my parents very pro-govt and MM Lee is my mum's idol. she respects him a a lot and always tell me must appreciate him if not we won't hv today. haha~

i think our govt is not bad already lah. it could be worse! so think on the bright side... ppl shouldn't be too dependent on govt if not will become too complacent already. my 2 cents worth.
