A dispute over a parking space at Kampong Bahru Road turned ugly yesterday (14 Dec), when two drivers who had parked along a road with a single yellow line got into an argument which drew stares from passers-by as well.
Mrs Ong, 32, returned to her car only to find that a van (pictured) was slotted halfway in the space between her car and a car in front. She approached the van driver to ask him to move his vehicle, as the space for her to move out had been too tight.
He replied, saying that there was enough space for her car to move out, and that he did not have to move. Mrs Ong attempted to move her vehicle out of the space several times, but to no avail. She asked the van driver again to move his vehicle, and offered that he take her lot after she vacated hers. But again, he replied that he would not.
At this point, things started to get heated up for both parties. Said Mrs Ong: "He was very rude to me and when he said to me 'I park here because I'm a more professional driver than you!', I snapped."
Mrs Ong then sought the help of her husband, 34-year old Mr Ong, who came down from his office to help her out. The van driver then left for an hour, leaving the couple helpless.
"We decided to call the police," said Mr Ong. The police received the call at about 4.25pm. However, by the time they had arrived, the van driver had left, after the car in front had moved slightly to allow the van to move out.
On the entire incident, Mr Ong said: "This was very boorish behaviour. How can he shout at my wife this way? It's no way to treat a woman."
