Chinese scientists have succeeded in implanting electrodes in the brain of a pigeon to remotely control the bird's flight, state media said.

The scientists at the Robot Engineering Technology Research Center at Shandong University of Science and Technology in eastern China used the micro electrodes to command the bird to fly right or left, and up or down.

The implants stimulated different areas of the pigeon's brain according to electronic signals sent by the scientists via computer, mirroring natural signals generated by the brain.

It was the first such successful experiment on a pigeon in the world.

Not really control i guess, Just like can check where they migrate to during certain seasons. But i just feel its a tit too cruel

Pigeons have the right to live freely too, such mean scientist. They should make a bird call or something else. not by putting something into the brain!

wow if this really true then it can be used even as a war weapon. imagine during transport of pigeons, one pigeon which has contracted some kind of disease is implanted with such a device, and sent to spread it around in other countries. the possibilities are scary. i dont think its humane also leh, the pigeon can no longer control where it wants to go arh? might as well create a robot one.
