But this is not the only sad fish case. For those who don't know, one of the dish in Man Han Quan Xi is also something like this.

The chef first wraps the fish head with a cold and wet towel and 'descale' and fries the fish body alive with the head covered with the wet towel still. Then when it's done, the fish is placed on the plate with some sauce and accompanying ingredients.

And guess what? You can still see the fish head with its mouth opening and closing as if it was gasping for air even though the body is already fully cooked.

I don't know why the Manchu Dowager in the olden days would eat such a thing lor. Like what Himeko said, mainly to serve the fish in the freshest way possible, in this case, the head is kept alive...

I doubt I would want to eat anything like that lor. I heard there's a Taiwan restaurant who serve such thing though...

For the first time, I completely agree with what you said.

I think respect is very important. Such perverse way of torturing an animal is definitely not right. If you wanna cook a fish, dun just cut a piece of it and cook that piece. Really inhumane.

but seriously, rest of the time u eating, also make the fish alive to die.
the in between, also made them suffer.
thats why i chose to be vegetarian =(

ya i agreed with you Himeko....and I'm quite suprised in a good-mannered country, Japan, they do this kind of thing which is very 'animal cruelty' act leh..

and i dun get it.. why the have to keep the head uncook or alive to make it as freshest as possible? I dun think I can eat a living-halfdead cooked animal leh.. make myself looks like an animal or predator also.. -__-
