Default SBS Transit to roll out new buses for more comfortable ride

SBS Transit to roll out new buses for more comfortable ride
By Hoe Yeen Nie, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 31 October 2007 1620 hrs

SINGAPORE: SBS Transit is rolling out new buses that provide an easier, more comfortable ride on Thursday.
There will be extra legroom, about 20 per cent more than the standard width, on these 500 new single-decked buses.
Costing S$180 million, the new buses will also have low floors and no steps at the doorways, allowing less mobile passengers to get on and off easily.
SBS Transit said this feature will be incorporated into all new buses in the future.
More space has also been created for the wheelchair-bound. Each bus will have room for two wheelchairs.
With cleaner emissions and better fuel efficiency, the new buses will be more environmental friendly as well.
Advanced braking technology will also help reduce the number of accidents on board. - AFP/ac

Nice. Is it just me, or does the bus look a tad longer than most?

i can only say its both.
first.: the bus is WIDER and HIGHER (since is a low floor bus).
second.: Nah, its just a normal 12metre rigid buses you see around SG. (but its more enviromentally friendly..)

cos for a wheelchair bus, the engine cant be placed infront or at the centre of the bus,
so its placed at the back.
as the bus engine is placed (i think vertically, if i'm not wrong) thus there are alot of steps.
and if you noticed, on a few of them, such as SBS8888D, has a seat belt for the passenger sitting at the rear, in the middle..
but its up to the passenger if they wanna use if.
for now, the bus drivers will go real slow as this bus is NEW and wider than the normal 12metre rigids, so they need to take extra care while turning and switching lanes..

The bus design is lousy and difinitely more compact when the bus start to moved on the road.

Less seating space is a reason . The rear is so narrow and ppl will not move back one. Very

uncomfortable and also tall guy hate to move back one. I am one of them. Moreover the rear seating

arrangment is very poorly arranged. Ppl dont liked to be faced by standing passenger as though

that they are looking at you or ppl seating oppisite you are 'staring" at you along the journey.

Some may felt giddy seating like that . Bus travelling will not be an enjoyable one anymore.

He upper deck is good. More the same like the old type. Ppl want is a more spacious bus and more seating bus.
