Sasha Christian is first Singaporean to enter Wakeboard World Cup semis Channel NewsAsia - Saturday, September 22SINGAPORE:
The Wakeboard World Cup is back in Singapore for the 4th year.
Though the main sponsor for the past three editions is no longer on board, there was still good news for the Republic.
Sasha Christian became the first local wakeboarder to qualify for the semi—finals.
The 14—year—old is Singapore’s top woman wakeboarder.
She was up against some of the world’s best at the heats, including Dallas Friday, a four—time X—Games champ who is making a comeback after fracturing a thigh bone in last year’s competition.
But the Singaporean pulled off a fine performance, earning her a place in Sunday’s semi—finals.
Sasha, a Sports School student, will compete in the world championship at the end of next month.
Paul Fong, Singapore Waterski & Wakeboard Federation’s general manager, said: "I believe this is going to be great for her confidence and hopefully she can bring back a world medal."
In the men’s category, Sasha’s brother, Max Christian, could not make it through to the next round.
But fans can expect some great tricks from the likes of Philip Soven.
