Buoyed by the success of the treatment, a 29-year-old woman in Malacca decided to try out the facial products recommended by that salon.
But this time, the results were disastrous.
It left the 29-year-old factory worker, who is only known as Ms Noraini, with acne and pimples filled with yellow pus.
She complained to the salon, but the staff told her that results would take time and that she should continue using the products.
She did as told, but that only made her condition worse.
Ms Noraini has since lodged a complaint with the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca).
Her woes began in January when she bought RM400 ($175) worth of facial products, such as toner, cleanser and moisturiser, from the salon.
She told Harian Metro that she agreed to use these products based on the salon's recommendation.
This was largely due to the success in losing weight after she signed up for its slimming programme.
It is not clear how much weight she lost.
But it is a move that has cost her dearly, said Ms Noraini.
Two weeks later, the results showed on her face.
'My face has suffered tremendous damage and attracted weird looks from others,' she said.
'It has made me feel ashamed of myself.'
She has since stopped using the products.
The salon told Fomca that it is investigating the matter and hopes that Ms Noraini will be patient.
An adviser for Fomca said that he will be writing to the Health Ministry to find out if the products meet safety standards.
