Meet 'Jelani' - the two-month-old male white rhino who got his name from the SAFFC on Sunday.
Some 300 people, including the football club's players and fan club members as well as participants and families of its KidzWarriors community soccer kids programme, gathered at the Singapore Zoo for the official naming of the rhino.
The SAFFC had secured the naming rights to the newborn shortly after his birth on 19 February this year.
'Jelani' is an African Swahili name which means 'mighty'.
And a mighty win is what the SAFFC expects its Jelani warriors to go all out for when they lock horns with other clubs in the S. League.
The club also hopes Jelani will inspire greater community awareness of wildlife conservation programme at the Zoo.
On its part, SAFFC makes annual contributions to the Wildlife Conservation Singapore Fund, specifically for the upkeep of rhinoceros which are in danger of extinction. - CNA/ir | | | | |
all along i know that SAFFC mascot is rhino but i never know that they are going to have a LIVE rhino as mascot which i think is cool |
