Default 'Safety barrier design adopted'

'Safety barrier design adopted'

Technician commuters, 33, is glad that platform screen doors will be installed at all above-ground MRT stations by 2012.

The STOMPer sent this picture taken in Hong Kong last year (2007), of a Disneyland train platform with screen doors, to STOMP yesterday (Jan 26) in an email.

"At that time, when I saw this train in Hong Kong, I was impressed.

"I thought since the environment of Hong Kong and Singapore is quite similar, what Hong Kong has, Singapore should not be losing out.

"After all, if this solution can work in Hong Kong, surely it can work in Singapore too?" he asked.

STOMPer commuters was glad to hear of the recent news that the LTA will adopt this plan too.

"Finally we have the good news that a similar design is being adopted by the relevant authorities.

"If people jump to the track in the future, we can say 'trespassers will be prosecuted'," he said.

I think they should not only put barrier and door but also sensor so that the train can respond and do emergency brake.

If your plan worked, we're going to have much more to pay for the fee.

That already cost a bomb, if there is really a high wall for it, plus your sensors, you may have to install lightnings too.

worst then having one suicide then everyone go die with them for pouring out from pockets.

Good prevention for accidents. But not good enough for people who want to die on the MRT tracks.

I saw that in Hong Kong, but I doubt it is useful for people who want to die on the track. Can't really prevent that.

yea~ i do agree a few that main factor will be the cost. 'cos after all, we haf only 2 main players which really means, judging from past experiences, the trend here is... cost will evenutally be passed on to us, the consumers. if not, why the increase in fares despite annual profits? lolx~ (who will mind tad he has too much $ to spare, esp from a company's viewpoint). Anyone mind walking to work?
