SINGAPORE: Singaporeans should support a new political party if the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) is no longer the best vehicle to take the country forward, said Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo.

Mr Yeo was speaking to students at a dialogue session at the Singapore Polytechnic on Friday.

They discussed issues such as inducting talent into politics and how the ruling party aims to win the votes of younger Singaporeans.

On that, Mr Yeo said the people must be clear about what they hope to see in the future, before they decide on which party to support.

The foreign minister was also asked if the PAP is confident of winning back the opposition—held ward of Hougang in the next election.

Mr Yeo answered: "We should be quietly confident, but never take the voters for granted, and to work hard to serve them.

"The PAP must always have that spirit to want to serve the people of Hougang, believing that we can do better for them if we are in charge. That must always be our spirit, but of course, it’s for the people there to decide."

yea vote for the opposition and we'll see PAP's work for the past decades go down the drain..sustaining and maintaining the country's politics and economics are not easy..

This is assuming that an opposition will do a really sloppy job... Which we don't know because we've never seen an opposition politician in charge of a ministry...

Given the same amount of resources at the disposal of a minister, who are we to assume that an opposition will surely do a sloppy job? Just because the ruling party says so?

Don't assume... They may well do a better job...

i would agree that the PAP has done a fairly good job. but i'll vote for the opposition nonetheless to keep them on their toes and not slip into complacency.

Vote for opposition and 5 years is all it takes for Singapore to be destroyed.
LKY says that young Singaporeans are very wild and that one minor mistake like this could destroy Singapore.

This is dangerous. If enough people think like this, Singapore will slide into disaster.

If you really want to keep PAP on their toes, vote with your head. Listen to what the Opposition can offer, what are their policies, how will they implement it etc etc. Look at PAP's pitch at the same time, think over it and see who gets your vote.

By voting intelligently we ensure that only the best nation-serving politicians get to stay in office.

Sorry but i don't agree with your statement here .. did you ever see the opposition running the country ? And how would you know that they won't do a better job that of PAP when they are given the right amount of resources.

But MM Lee say that ...yada yada yada blah blah blah ....with all due respect MM LKY is getting old .. we need to move forward without him ..
