Default Road to South Africa: Lions drawn with Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Lebanon

Singapore have been drawn into Group 4 together with Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Lebanon in the third round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Zone qualifying tournament after the draw in Durban, South Africa last night.

Said National Team coach Radojko Avramovic: “There are no easy groups at this level and we'll look to surprise the favourites in our group.

All the groups look tough, not only Group 1 (Australia, China, Iraq and Qatar) but also the group featuring Japan, Bahrain, Oman and Thailand.

However, football is not just about the favourites. Saudi and Uzbekistan may be the favourites in our group but if football is only about the favourites, the game will not be as interesting as it is.”

The top two teams from each group will go through to the fourth and final group stage. That will feature two groups of five teams and the top two qualify for the finals.

The two third-placed teams will enter a play-off and the winners will take on the champions of Oceania in another play-off to decide the final place.

FIFA has already set the dates for the third stage qualification matches for February 6, March 26, June 7, June 14, September 6 and September 10.

Saudi and Uzbek VERY STRONG, Lebanon also stronger than singapore, singapore sure will suffer

I made a terrible mistake That I can't take back. Now when I close my eyes, All I see is black.Whoever thought,That this would happen to me I'm not chained physically,But mentally,I'll never be the same,Never again.I deeply regret ,what I did.The mistake I can't take back.I regret it deeply, I just have one plea....God please forgive me.

Besides S'pore, Thailand is the only SEA to reach this stage, their chances of going thru looks gd, just need to brush Bahrain aside, Oman shouldn't pose much threat to them. Iran and S. Korea put second string team also will go thru.

We shld be able to beat Lebanon. I hope after our recent game against the Saudi, the coach will know how to approach the game, if we can get a point against the middle east powerhouse i think it'll be in our hands.
