A fine-dining Italian restaurant with a modern outlook, Bologna has managed to fight the trend towards dining in more casual eateries by keeping a loyal businessmen clientele.
Food The menu showcases a selection of contemporary Italian dishes. The set lunches here are popular with business types. They get a very nice antipasto buffet of marinated seafood and salads before selecting a main course from a small menu. For dessert, it’s back to the buffet table.
Ambience Although a fine-dining restaurant in a five-star hotel, the restaurant is more modern-day elegance than old-world stuffiness. Sketches of horses by Leonardo da Vinci decorate the walls while a cascading waterfall outside provides a cool view.
Service The staff are professional, and some are very good-looking as well. In the evenings, when you order the sabayon for dessert, the waiters will put on a show for you while they whip it up at your table. They sing their “sabayon” song, which they finish just as the dessert is ready.
Wine The list is extensive, with a big selection of Italian wines. Prices range from $60 a bottle to $500. There is also a selection of French wines, and a smattering of New World bottles.
Price Dining here is not cheap. Appetisers and pastas are generally above $20, and main courses range from $34 for a panfried red snapper to $48 for beef tenderloin with goose liver.
What’s good You can always bank on the quality of the food. The antipasti spread for lunch will have you drooling. Service is very smart too.
What’s not The prices are too steep for most people to dine here regularly.
