Retailers cash in big on Great S'pore Sale IT MAY be less than a week into the Great Singapore Sale, but bargain hungry shoppers in search of good buys are already giving retailers good reason to smile.
The Sale kicked off on a positive note, with foot traffic at most malls over the sale's first official weekend stronger than last year.
At Centrepoint, 175,000 shoppers passed through the doors between Friday and Sunday, compared to last year's 145,000 at the start of the sale, said Mr Andre Lobo, Senior Manager, Advertising and Promotions, Frasers Centrepoint Malls.
The number is also higher than the average of 140,000 shoppers on the weekends.
At Wisma Atria, human traffic is also up - by 21 per cent from last year, and 26 per cent from the weekend before the sale.
In the heartland, figures seem similarly robust.
Causeway Point, also under the Frasers Centrepoint group, saw a 20 per cent increase in weekend traffic over last year, said Mr Lobo.
The shopping complex is also one of three heartland malls offering weekend late night shopping. The other two are Northpoint and Compass Point.
Thirteen of CapitaLand's malls, which took part in the sale last year, saw increases of between 5 and 15 per cent in shopper numbers for the weekend, with IMM in Jurong boasting the strongest jump, said its spokesman.
The numbers are also strong at VivoCity, the group's newest mall, which is participating in the sale for the first time, said general manager Wendy Low.
Over the weekend, the mall thronged with a total of over 400,000 shoppers. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |
