SINK HOLE ON KELLOCK ROAD
No water supply, difficulty in parking may drive customers away
THE sink hole that appeared in front of his restaurant yesterday afternoon may end up burning a hole in his pocket.

Mr Raymond Tan's Loon Seng Restaurant is right next to Kellock Road where the 1m wide, 2m deep hole is.
Mr Tan, 42, said in Mandarin: 'I think my business may be affected by at least 50 per cent.
'This is because cars cannot turn into Kellock Road and find parking.'
The sink hole on the side of the road going to River Valley Road made it necessary for the police to cordon off the road.
PRACTICAL PROBLEMS
While Mr Tan may be worried about his business on a Saturday night, which is usually a busy night for him, there were other more pressing and practical problems caused by the sink hole.
The sink hole may have caused underground water pipes to burst and as a result, nine restaurants and several households along River Valley Road had no water supply from around 5.30pm. The water supply had not been restored at 10pm when we checked last.
Several restaurant workers rushed to fill pails and buckets with water after a PUB water truck which arrived about an hour later.
Mr Vincent Chua, a Japanese restaurant chef, said: 'It's very inconvenient for everyone working here.'
Resident Chew Seng Koon, 70, was lucky to have taken his bath just before the water supply was disrupted.
Mr Chew, who has been living in the area for 45 years, said: 'I don't need water now. So I am not going to collect the water from the truck.
'I don't think in the past five years, we've had a problem with the water supply.'
The Land Transport Authority was unable to comment on the sink hole by press time.
Kellock Road serves mainly residents who live in condominiums there.
The sink hole did not cause a traffic jam along River Valley Road.
Condominium security guard Rajan Samy, 37, said he could see water flowing from the hole after it appeared.
Mr Rajan, who works in a condominium less than 20m from the sink hole, said: 'From my guard post, I saw many people staring and pointing at the same spot.
'So I got out of the post to have a look and saw the hole.
'Water was gushing out from the hole. Maybe a pipe had burst.'
Restaurant owner Mr Tan said he went close to have a look into the hole after it appeared.
He said the hole was about 2m deep and there was a pungent smell of gas around it.
Mr Tan said: 'Luckily, no car was parked near the spot where the sink hole appeared.
'The nearest car was parked about 5m away.'
Police spokesman Danny Tan said the police received a call at 3.30pm that the road had sunk in.
Traffic policemen were seen at the junction of Kellock Road and River Valley Road.
The police were there to 'manage the situation' and 'ensure the safety of persons and property in the area'.
Last Saturday evening a section of Telok Blangah Road sank by about 20cm.
It created a depression measuring 7m by 7m, affecting two lanes near the Alexandra Road junction, close to the PSA Building.
No vehicles were damaged.
