Default Replace your PS3 hard-disk with a higher capacity one

Hi,

anyone replaced their 40GIG PS3 hard-disk with a higher capacity hard-disk i.e 120gig, 180gig or 320gig? Any side effects? Which are the particular brands of SATA hard-disk to use? Can someone kindly give a brief description of the procedure in changing the hard-disk?

Cheers

haven't see 250g 2.5" 7200rpm HDD on sls price list leh. 250GB 5400rpm should be easier to find.

Wide Grin Re: Replace your PS3 hard-disk with a higher capacity one

Hi guys,

wow, thanks for all the feedback. I did my upgrade last sat, and it is working great till now. I got the below:

Seagate 2.5" 5400RPM 250GB 8MB SATA
SGD126

The only thing I notice is that the one which I had replaced (the above mentioned), when it is reading information, it tend to be a little noisier than the original one:

Hitachi 2.5" 5400RPM 40B SATA

I wonder if the rest of you who had replace their hard-disk is experiencing similar effect.

I went around SLS initially in search for a 2.5" SATA 7200RPM 320GB. But I was at first unable to find one at all. Then I started asking around and what I found out is that the price difference is too great. Difference between a 2.5" SATA 7200RPM 320GB and a 2.5" SATA 5400RPM 320GB easily come up to near SGD100. That is why, no shops will wanna bring it in to sell. If you really want one, you will need to order from the shops.

However, when I was a little unsure about this upgrade and I approach most of the shops in SLS where they sold PS3 to inquire on this upgrade, not 1 shop dare say that this is possible. But puzzled me, in the PS3 manual, it clearly stated that we can change out the hard-disk by ourselves. There are even some shops telling me that I need special settings in order to do the upgrade, and when I asked about the setting he told me: " No one knows!??" And there is this shop that told me: "NO! CANNOT CHANGE LAH!"

Oh mind, wonder if anyone will wanna buy their PS3 or any games platform from SLS after reading my post? But I will strongly advice that only buy from SLS if you have friends working there or you know exactly what you wanna buy and have ample knowledge on the product you wanna buy. Please do not be attrached to how much they will lower the price for your purchase, at the end of the day, you might not be receiving what you ahd expected.

Nevertheless, back to the main topic. It is a wonderful upgrade. Should anyone have any queries. Me, myself and the rest of the forum member will gladly be there to help

Cheers
eRic

mine was seagate 40gig... mine still make the same noise as the previous hdd,
...better buy 5400rpm cause not much difference just loading 1-3secs difference is just price big difference...dont trust much of wat they say at sls most are dont know ppl or liars...theres 1 time i ask at sony square at sls abt the blutooth headset with covering two of my ears and they give all kind of answer so they just make me confuse even more

SLS have plenty of 5400RPM ones, that will depend on your negotiation skill. As for the 7200RPM ones, you will need to order from certain shops in SLS that will bring in upon request. But I must warn you that the price difference is huge.
