haha, dunno if is against rules to post this.

anyone heard of Singhoster, they are a new web hosting company in Singapore. my website now hosted by them. they got very fast response to emails (although u call them, they nv ans) and really helpful.

i now installing oscommerce myself (cost $20 to ask Singhoster to install) but got problem. so i email them and they fix for me FOC. small prob only, but still, they did it in 10 mins. i was expecting them to ask me to pay :biggrin4:

anyone with stories on their webhoster, post here. i know i need such topics when choosing one few weeks back. this can be gd reference for the rest wanting to start their own websites.

*no, i don't get paid for this, and i am not singhoster staff, just happy to see actual gd services in singapore. btw: singhoster server was down at least once as far as i noe, so they not perfect.*

Hmm..please don't see this as shameless advertising, but I usually install for my clients for free if I know they signed up for my plans to set up an oscommerce/cubecart/zencart site.

Alternative, my hosting plans all come with Fantastico for my clients to install scripts like oscommerce with a few clicks of the mouse, easily.

I'm sharing the server with someone else coz I don't have a clientel large enough to warrant a whole server yet. It's easy to just start a webhosting company, but to last and increase the number of clients is the toughest because the market is oversaturated with price-competition.

To me, webhosting is just a core function for me to be able to create more websites of my own based on new ideas, without worrying about the costs of purchasing web space. Webhosting also serves as a source of passive income to me.

I suppose webhosting and photography are two of the toughest markets to enter now.

can i ask if your profits made online must pay tax or not? if registered company, of coz must. but if like me is just a personal website selling stuff, must pay tax or not? since i setting up oscomerce, i see got 1 option is include tax. very chim for a guy like me who nv pay tax before.

If you register your business with ACRA like me, you will be required to pay taxes. If you wish to sell things online, it is best for you to register your business name. Having your RCB number located on your website helps to instill trust because your visitors know that you are who you are by checking with ACRA.

You should also leverage on your own business.
Here are some of the facts you may or may not know:
1) Registering a business costs only $65 for a Sole Proprietorship
2) You can use your residential address to register a business, or a virtual office if you do have a physical office.
3) For Sole Proprietorship, your business earnings are added into your personal total taxable income and taxed accordingly. This also means if your business makes a loss for the first few years, your personal total taxable income will also be reduced.

mine dun haf fantastico i think. or they disable oscommerce with fantastico. i tried, the option blank out. anyway installation quite easy, i wanted to sign up for the $88 package to get oscommerce initially, heng nv.

Not all webhosts offer fantastico..but to charge you $20 for installing OScommerce, I guess it's just a labour charge.

I personally prefer cubecart and recommend it to my clients...not confident about the architecture of oscommerce.

cubecart? nv heard before. guess i still new to this. i only know zencart, CRE Loaded, vituemart and osCommerce. i think os quite ok, just that got security problem, and very hard to configure the layout. not sure bout the rest. anyway, i disabled the security issue for mine, so no prob on that.

just to update the situation, my website is down for 3 days. it has been up and down repeatedly and i cannot do anything to it for 3 days. singhoster claim they cannot do anything about it, which is bs lar. i dun see other webhost get attacked (the downtime due to attack), i know got security software to protect against this. the webhost only know how to make excuse.

also, i claim for a refund which is THEIR policy for downtime, and they just say my package not much profit, so dun wan to give refund. $4 refund only, but i want them to lose this money or they will nv improve their service. if every customer claim this $4, they lose quite alot. they nv follow their own policy and keep making excuse. Summary: do not use Singhoster, i already regret liao.:cry3:

depends on what u want. i was considering cirtexhosting, its for low budget personal sites. USD2 per month. (ps: sticking with singhoster since they are trying to solve this prob long term, gonna give them a month or so probation)

try http://www.hostsearch.com/, search linux and put price <$5. u will see some hosts that offers 12 months free hosting! but got installation, still worth it IMO, if ur looking for a mid-range traffic site.

I usually go for oversea hosting, coz more value in return for the same price you get in Singapore e.g. $10/mth.

There're quite a few good ones out there in the market thats highly recommended, just do your research. My recommendation goes to LunarPages and Hostgator, theres 30 days money back guarantee, so can check it out.

Always do your research for reviews and don't go for FREE hosting...

The service from Poznet seems quite ok with me. You shouldn't waste time switching unless the pros of switching strongly outweighs the cons.

It's also good to use an overseas webhost if you are not only targeting local audience, or if you are just hosting a personal website. For e-commerce sites, it's still better to go with local hosting.

I have 3 websites currently, 2 with CyberAxis and 1 with MaxHub.

CyberAxis is good, they have really helpful staff and their email and support ticket responses are really fast. Also, their servers are rarely down.

For MaxHub, I'm with them for less than a month. Their response is relatively fast, sometimes takes up to a day to respond to my emails.

I've been with overseas hosts. All of them went out of business within 1-2 years. I have been searching endless for a perfect host, like you said, a perfect host doesn't exist, there are definitely downtime and stuff. I wasn't really surprised when my past hosts closed down as there are simply too many potential competitors out in the webhosting industry. People who are not willing to pay, tend to seek free hosting service, however my experience proves that, free hosts do not last as long as they claimed.

Despite all this, I'm glad I met SingByte, as stated, its a Singapore host, and it really impress me with its efficient support, services, most important of all is its awesome loading speed. (my previous hosts' servers located in countries like new york .etc)

I'm placing my faith on SingByte. Appreciate it for hosting my blog. Its definitely worth of your money and consideration.(as low as $4.95/month) Just trying to help my host, thanks.
