If your Wii's firmware is 3.2J and your Wiikey's firmware is 1.9s, you should be able to play the USA version of SSBB directly, without the use of Freeloader. I just tried it myself today with this exact setup, and the game worked fine.

I got a copy of English SSBB from my friend. I am getting 001 error. Is it because there is a problem with the disc? Can you tell me where you downloaded the SSBB? is it a 7.4 gb version?

You'd need a Dual-Layer DVD to burn the image. The image is 8.5 GB. Burn as it is (RAW format) either via IMG-Burn or Nero.

Cheers!

Tested, both the NTSC-J and NTSC-U versions. Both are working fine.
If possible, get the full dump and not the scrubbed versions.

Cheers!

I had tried to burn the 7.6GB of SSBB into a dual layer DVD...I can see the SSBB menu and click Start. After loading, the screen is blank (While screen) ...
Anyway, have any idea what's wrong ?

Hi rleow1112!

What type of DVD.DL discs are you using? DVD+DL or DVD-DL discs? I personally preferred Verbatim over other brands (especially the ones made in Singapore).
  1. Please use High/Excellent quality DVD+R DL (Verbatim DVD+R DL & MEMOREX DVD+R DL tested)
  2. Use a DVD9 ISO and tested-as-working-properly burner.
  3. Burn the DVD at a slow speed (4X is great, though Wii reads back @ 6X).
  4. Open IMGBURN, select to write iso to DVD, select DVD9, click in TOOLS, SETTINGS->Write->Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960. Burn the DVD SLOWLY.
  5. Enjoy!

Here's some explanations as to why one may encounter white screen (not limited to SSBB though):

* White screen + Japanese green text = Wii reader doesn’t like the DL media and can’t find second layer
* White screen and dvd turning with no text= DL Media w/o Layerbreak fixed.
* DVD9 DL Original & Backup require excessive laser use, forcing and abusing it will provoke future damage in your laser taking the risk of damaging … use at your own risk!
* If your drive gives 3 dry noises (like TOC,TOC,TOC) your reader is defective or dirty or not capable of reading DL
* SSBB Import Backup will create some new Japanese channels in your wii after you update with it …
* Other faults like erroneous readings or hang ups are due to the reflexion index of the dvd, because the wii drive is not capable inclusive of reading correctly the original discs like it has been reported by hundreds of users to Nintendo.
* Once the game loads, one can observe if delays in the audio is present, if yes; go to the options menu and turn off the option Deflicker (a wrench icon) and then re-run the game.
* Enjoy!

Hi perimbean,
I had tried both DVD DL with -R and +R for Verbatim ..
I first tried +R with 16x and follow by -R with X8 speed but still met with same problem i.e White screen as I mentioned previously.....

I will tried your suggestion and see if it works.....
Regards/Robert

Default Question on WII SSBB

Hi perimbean,

- What is DVD9 ISO as mentioned in your point.2 ?
Is it a program to test the disc drive ? If yes, where can i download it ?

- I had tried to follow on your point.4 on the IMGBURN version 2.4.1.0
- Where can I find the option of "DVD9" to select ?
- I had entered 2084960 under user specified with 4x writing speed; when it begin to burn,
I get a messsage as below..

"User Specified layer break position is such that L0 < L1 - THIS IS NOT ALLOWED !
Image size : 4,155,840
User Specified L0 sectors: 2,048,960
Calculated L1 sectors: 2,106,880

Would you like to continue anyway ?

What should I do next please ??
Not sure if you are using Microsoft MSN Instant Messenger ? If yes, I will be ON tonight and my account it rleow1@singnet.com.sg for online chat/help that you may provide to me !

Thanks in advance..
Regards

Here's the settings for ImgBurn (a screenshot)

DVD9 is a format referring to 8.5 GB. ISO is the standard image file format for archiving the structure of the disc and being able to write it out close to the original disc. Bootable discs are usually released on ISO format as well.

Cheers!
