SGC$: 44.80 Bank: 201.40 Total SGC$: 246.20 | Individuals have a mask of another self (called their anti-self) which they can utilise to hide their inner feelings and to protect and promote their real personality. There is a relationship between discipline and the theatrical sense. If we cannot imagine ourselves as different from what we are and try to assume that second self, we cannot impose a discipline upon ourselves, though we may accept one from others. Active virtue as distinguished from the passive acceptance of a current code is therefore theatical, conciously dramatic, the wearing of a mask. It is the condition of ardous full life. One constantly notices in very active natures a tendency to pose, or a preoccupation with the effect they are producing if the pose has become a second self. All happiness depends on having the energy to assume the mask of some other self, that all joyous or creative life is a rebirth as something not oneself, something created in a moment and perpetually renewed in playing a game like that of a child where one loses the infinite pain of self-realization, a grotesque or solemn painted face put on that one may hide from the terrors of judgement, an imaginative Saturnalia of the world are but the world's flight from an infinite blinding beam. At its simplest the mask is the social self, behind which we face both the world and the beloved. The mask includes all the differences between one's own and other people' conception of one's personality. To be conscious of the discrepancy which makes a mask of this sort is to look at oneself as if one were somebody else. In addition, the mask is defensive armour: we wear it, like the light lover, to keep from being hurt. So protected, we are only slightly involved no matter what happens. This theory seems to assume that we can be detached from experience like actors from a play. Finally, the mask is a weapon of attack; we put it on to keep up an noble conception of ourselves; it is a heroic ideal which we try to live up to. ![]() Delphinus lv55 I/L Wiz ign: Aleznia |

SGC$: 44.80 Bank: 201.40 Total SGC$: 246.20 | In conclusion, its not that we ignore simple and predictable stuff, turning our back on the chaotic and threatening. But in human response, we tend to look at them behind the mask- by detaching ourself from the actual episode. Put it this way- people don't look away from those things, just desolates and view from far[to protect ourselves]... Just like going online, viewing post but no reply. ![]() Delphinus lv55 I/L Wiz ign: Aleznia |

Piangz who created this essay topic ah? :disgust2: Ok, funnysnow...u see two statements in the topic. 1. People are NOT likely to visually study things that are simplistic or predictable 2. When things are chaotic or threatening, we tend to look away That 'not' is tricky....it is an assumption word. It assumes people in general don't and won't bother to look closely at objects/people/incidents that are plain/commonplace/nothing unusual. You have to cite examples by using stories to show you understand this part of the essay topic. Then for the 2nd statement, you have to link your stories from your 1st statement so there is a flow. In essay writing, what the teachers are looking for is HOW WELL YOU UNDERSTAND THE TOPIC TITLE. Use simple forms of English. Just get your message through clearly so that whoever is reading your essay know what you are talking about. Funnysnow, I can only help u to know how to present your essay. Writing is personal expressions of your thoughts and feelings and if anyone don't share YOUR thoughts and feelings then using their essay is not being true to yourself de. ![]() It is not the place, nor the condition, but the mind alone that can make anyone happy or miserable. SGC$: 1,689.20 Bank: 0.00 Total SGC$: 1,689.20 | (my english is only secondary school standard. so don't take my words too seriously.) our attention is always drawn towards things that seem of any interest to us. this is because all humans are curious and have an instinctive need to learn and adapt to their surroundings. that is why we tend to visually focus on practically anything, and even something small out of the ordinary demands a closer inspection. how do we define whether a thing is of interest or not? whenever we see something, we immediately subconsciously think, first, what it is and is the thing supposed to be there, if not, why is it there, and does it pose a threat to me. if the thing is not predicted and not directly threatening, we find it of interest. example. while walking home you see a car on the road. we look at it and the above thought process happens. the car is obviously as and where it should be. very predictable. we lose interest and stop studying the car almost instantly. this is bacause the car on the road is simplistic and predictable and is not of any interest. yet, imagine if on your way home you see an apple lying on the floor. same thought process. is an apple supposed to be lying on the pavement? not really, so the thought process would move on to why is it there. at this juncture, most people would stop and look up to see if there were any apple trees that might have dropped the apple, and then form their own conclusions to satisfy their curiosity on why an apple is on the floor. all this creates a learning experience so that the next time they see an apple on the floor, they would not be as surprised anymore. final example. on your way home you see a gang fight. as usual, the thought process goes, what is it? gang fight. is it supposed to be there? not really. why is it there? perhaps it is their hangout. does it pose a threat to me. quite likely. the obvious threat of getting hurt will immediately deter people from studying the fight. the need for safety takes precedence over curiousity and thus, our attention is consciously pulled away. this time, the person's curiosity is not fulfilled and the next time a gang fight occurs, the same thought process and amount of interest will be as before. in conclusion, we tend to visually study the things that interest us, to satisfy our inherent curiosity. simplistic and predictable things have little interest value, and safety takes precedence over curiosity when confronted with chaotic or threatening situations. we can thus accurately say that people are not likely to visually study things that are simplistic or predictable, and when things are chaotic or threathening, we tend to look away. ![]() poor me To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.
