Movie Prince Hour (Goong S), Hanazakarino Kimitachihe, Engine, The Hospital coming to U!

*Exclusive! Hwangyiny

The primetime KBS drama Hwang Jin-i ranks high as one of Korea’s Number 1 hit dramas and features actress Ha Ji-won as Hwang and actor Kim Jae-won as Kim Jung-han, Hwang's lover.

About the drama:

Hwang Jin-i was among the most famous kisaengs (female Korean entertainers) of the Joseon Dynasty. Praised for her breathtaking beauty, she was also a painter, poet and calligrapher of the late 16th century, who rubbed shoulders with some of the era's most intelligent figures such as scholar Seo Kyung-duk and well-known monk Jijok.

Critics say that the success of the historical drama originates from dramatizing Hwang's ill-fated love and overflowing talents combined with a detailed description of the lives of kisaengs with beautifully coloured sets and costumes. The drama attempts to reenact the period with a set composed of replicas of ancient murals, architectural structures, arts and crafts, costumes and personal accessories.

*Exclusive! Prince Hours (Goong S)

After the mega success of Princess Hours (Goong 1), this much-anticipated sequel will follow closely the plot of the second Goong comic by So-Hee Park.

About the drama:

The Korean palace discovers the existence of a royal grandson living among commoners. Lee Hoo has absolutely no clue about his identity. After he graduated from high school, he works as a delivery boy in a Chinese restaurant until an invitation from the Palace makes him a sudden member of the imperial family overnight.

Upon his arrival in the palace, he begins his training to become the next Emperor. The inspiration for this plot came from a true story in the Joseon dynasty where a commoner became the emperor.

Korean pop star Se7en will play the character of Lee Hoo while other cast members include Huh Lee-Jae (who plays Yang Soon-Ae), Kang Doo (Lee Joon), and Park Shin-hye (Shin Sae-Ryung). Many of the supporting cast, including those who played the royal family, are expected to join Goong S.

*Exclusive! Come Back Soon-Ae!

Korea’s number one comedy sees two women exchanging bodies in a freak accident, a concept rarely seen on Korean TV and thus its fresh appeal.

About the drama:

Some men would betray their wives who support their family and in this drama, Yoon Il Suk (Yoon Da Hoon) is such a man. Hee Soon Ae (Shim Hye Jin) forgives her errant husband repeatedly, even turning a blind eye to his affair, but unfortunately, his lover Han Cho Eun (Park Jin Hee) isn’t as accommodating.

Cho Eun insists that Il Suk and Soon Ae be separated. During a quarrel with Soon Ae on a bus, the vehicle spins out of control and flies out of the express lane. In a strike of thunderous lightning, their souls are exchanged…

*Exclusive! Be Strong, Geum Soon! (Premieres on Tues March 20, 7pm)

Voted as one of Korea’s top three most popular dramas, fans of My Lovely Sam Soon will embrace Geum Soon like their bosom buddy.

About the drama:

Geum-Soon (Han Hye-Jin) is a young widow who never becomes discouraged or blames others no matter what happens in her life. Her father died and her mother left her when she was young. She was raised by her grandmother. A mature and thoughtful child, she would pretend that everything was fine even when she was lonely and sad just because she doesn’t want to worry her grandmother.

Her dream is to become a hairdresser and then create a total beauty line like Vidal Sassoon. However, she had to postpone her dream when she became pregnant and married Jeong-wan. One day, her husband died in an accident. She decided to raise her child by herself, just as her grandmother raised her.

Goo, Jae-hee (Kang Ji-Hwan) is a good-looking and skilled surgeon. He's the nicest man to his patients, but to others he comes across as very arrogant. Every time he runs into Geum-Soon, a problem crops up. After breaking Geum-Soon's scooter, he suffers a guilty conscience and helps her get a job in a beauty shop. The more he gets to know Geum-Soon, the more he likes her. He's slowly falling for her although she's far from the type of woman he's been looking for. But upon knowing she's a widow with a child, he tries to keep his distance…

Followers of Taiwanese idol dramas will be pleased with these new offerings: not only will you have F4 member Jerry Yen to drool over, you’ll get Ella from S.H.E and two young hotties from the new boyband Fahrenheit!

*Exclusive! The Hospital (Starting Sat Feb 3, 2007, 7.30pm)

Starring F4’s Jerry Yen and veteran actor Ng Man Tat, this latest and highly anticipated Taiwanese make of the hit Japanese medical drama will make an island-wide exclusive debut on Feb 3, airing every weekend at 7.30pm.

Jerry Yan stars as a surgeon unknowingly drawn into his hospital's power struggle. Veteran Leon Dai, supporting actor in Double Vision and director of Twenty Something Taipei, plays Jerry Yan's senior colleague. Hong Kong actor Ng Man Tat is their boss, the head of the surgical department. Rising actress Chang Chun Ning from Holiday Dreaming and Silk takes up the female lead.

About the drama

The Hospital uncovers both nobility and evil within human nature, especially at times of crisis. Dr. Su (Jerry Yan), a talented young surgeon, receives a request from the medical department to collaborate on a complicated leukemia case, the patient being the President's daughter (Saya Chang).

However, Dr. Su's boss (Ng Man Tat), the head of the surgical department, fears that the head of the medical department will threaten his chances in the competition to become the next hospital director. When Dr. Su checks the computer for staff members involved in this special case, he sees his ex-girlfriend's (Chang Chun Ning) name as the anesthetist. But what surprises him is that Dr. Chiu (Leon Dai), the deputy head of the surgical department, has already replaced him as the surgeon of this operation...

*Exclusive! Hanazakarino Kimitachihe 花样少年少女 (Starting Thurs Feb 15, 2007 , 7pm)

Adapted from a popular Japanese manga, Hanazakarino Kimitachihe is Taiwan's top rated and most talked-about idol drama in 2006. Starring Ella from S.H.E and Wu Zun and Jiro Wang from Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit, their romance begins on Channel U on Feb 14, 2007. Channel U will even bring in S.H.E and Fahrenheit to Singapore to promote this blockbuster drama!

About the drama:

Ella stars as a young girl who admires a high-jump athlete (Wu Zun) so much so that she decides to return to Taiwan from the States. She even disguises as a male student to get admission to the boys' school where he studies! Her plan works surprisingly well - she even becomes his roommate and best friend. Her disguise of course leads to many hilarious scenarios, making Hanazakarino Kimitachihe an extremely entertaining romantic comedy to watch. Will her real identity be revealed in the end? Will he discover that his roommate, indeed a ‘she’, has been his secret admirer?

To Get Unstuck In Time

About the drama:

Roger Kwok stars as He Tianguang, a crime officer investigating a series of homicides with all suspects linked back to events 20 years ago. His father He Dahe (Hui Siu Hung) has already passed on in a rather undignified fashion.

Inexplicably, via an old mobile phone, Tianguang is able to communicate with his father across the boundaries of time, when the latter was still alive 20 years ago. Together, both father and son begin solving crimes together.

Tianguang is in love with a fiction crime writer Gao Shan (Flora Chan), who became wheelchair-bound after an accident 20 years ago. Gao Shan is reluctant to further develop their relationship as a result of her disability, prompting Tianguang to persuade his father to prevent the accident that disabled Gao Shan from happening.

Fate and future as Tianguang knows it, is thus changed. In this new twist, Gao Shan is the daughter of a gangster and doesn’t even know Tianguang. This change also begins to lead to the true reason behind Dahe’s death…

Split Second

About the drama:

This story is about the 30-day cat-and-mouse chase between the Hong Kong police and the Hong Kong mafia, also linked to the Thai mafia. Alex Fong stars as Feng Zhiwei, a Hong Kong cop gathering evidence against the mafia, heavily assisted by Peng Hui (played by Yoyo Mung). Yang Qidong (Patrick Tam) is originally an ordinary Hong Kong police constable who later became an undercover in the Hong Kong mafia, while Huang Jiahui (Kevin Cheng) is the Chief Inspector of Hong Kong’s Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) desperately trying to find the mole within CIB, placed by the mafia, before he succumbs to his debilitating cancer disease.

On the other side of the war is Hou Wenhua (Marco Ngai), the most trusted member of the Hong Kong triad by the Thai mafia head Zheng Kun (Liu Jiang).

Engine (Premieres on Friday, Feb 2 at 11.30pm)

Exclusively on Channel U, Japan's top screen idol, returns as a race car driver, whose life took a dramatic turn after an accident.

About the drama:

Jiro Kanzaki (Takuya Kimura) is a F3000 test driver blessed with acute sensitivity and breathtaking driving techniques. A daredevil who feels no ounce of fear driving at speeds that even top racers are reluctant to attempt, his shining future is met with a roadblock when unexpected trouble forces him to leave his team and return to his homeland for the first time in years.

Until he finds a new job as a racer, Jiro decides to stay with his parents. What awaits him there is his hardheaded father, his nagging sister, the 12 children in the foster home his father runs, a snobbish male nurse and a stubborn female nurse who daydreams about her life.

Jiro's return brings a breath of fresh air that influences the people around him. However, he is still unaware that he too will eventually change the way he thinks and lives
