Pocket Bikes gaining attention in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Every Saturday night at a car park near the site of the National Stadium, enthusiasts turn up to race in mini motorbikes called Pocket Bikes.



This hobby is picking up in Singapore and more people have been taking part in it since the gathering started less than two years ago.

Sometimes, about ten people would gather, but at other times, up to 30 people could be seen at that place. One of the bikers who was spotted there was only 7 years old.

The pocket bikers bring their own safety gear and a bike can cost between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars.

Faidin Noordin, a Pocket Bike enthusiast, said: "This sport is very dangerous. The bikes go quite fast so we need to have proper riding gear like helmet, gloves and if possible, the racing suit."

"Normally we play during the weekend. With this, we can meet our friends and all their children," said another Pocket Bike enthusiast, Isham Noordin.
