I also started about the same time as usagi. Used 3 fuji p&s cammies (1st cammie was too limited, 2nd and 3rd got soaked and broke), now using nikon D70, fuji fx11 and sony k800i. Stopped taking photos for the past 2 years but rekindled the hobby a few days ago.

Saved enough money and got myself a Nikon D300 and have been using it for 2 months already. Fantastic camera, don't know what else to say. Current setup is Nikon D300 with Vertical Grip, SB600, 18-70mm kit lens from D70s, and yes, it's very heavy.

Thinking back, it's been one year since i started out on automotive photography and am very satisfied that i have come this far with local automotive magazine publication companies engaging my services for photoshoot. Well, enlisting in 3 months time! What a waste...

Looking forward to go into taking portrait shots.

I have seen some of your works and I am pretty impressed. You can always resume your hobby after NS or you can do sporadic stuff once you finish BMT

Anyway welcome to the club

Welcome to the club

To improve your shots, you will have to start shooting as much as example, reading on books to learn the basics and get inspired by the photos being published. Try to search for random scenery photos on Flickr, you will see some nice stuff around

Actually any new cameras can do the job (with the exception of a few odd models)!
