Taiwan man, missing after drinking session, found dead in drain
IT'S constant, loud barking seemed to be coming from somewhere under the street.
Drawn by curiosity, a group of people looking for their missing friend followed the barking sounds, till they came to a covered drain.
When they removed the grate and peered into the drain, they were stunned.
They saw their friend, Mr Nai Qizhong, 44, lying motionless under the covered drain.
And his pet dog was sitting on Mr Nai's chest and barking incessantly, reported Apple Daily Taiwan.
He had not returned home since Monday night. On Wednesday, his friends and ex-wife had gone looking for him and his dog, said to be his constant companion, last Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that there were no suspicious injuries on Mr Nai's body. The case is still under investigation, although police have ruled out any foul play.
FATAL ACCIDENT
Apparently, Mr Nai had left his friend's house in Hsinchu county after a hard drinking session.
He was accompanied by his pet dog, which had been given to him a few months ago. Mr Nai had named the dog Xiao Hei (Little Blackie).
When he stopped to relieve himself near a drain, he lost his balance and slipped into a 1m-wide opening.
Police believe that it may have been raining that night as Mr Nai's body was clad in a raincoat when it was discovered.
He is believed to have drowned in the 1m-deep water that was in the drain.
Mr Nai's body was swept almost 30m away, till it came to rest under the covered section of the drain.
Over the next two days, Little Blackie searched and then located Mr Nai's body.
The little puppy then continued barking loudly in order to draw attention to the body which was lying out of sight under the covered drain.
Despite the tragedy, Little Blackie's devotion to Mr Nai was visible in many ways.
When the police arrived to remove Mr Nai's body from the drain, it stood by watching.
Even after the body had been sent to the mortuary, Little Blackie refused to budge.
Instead, the dog sat on the foothold of Mr Nai's motorcycle, as though waiting for its master's return.
Mr Nai's ex-wife, with whom he has two sons and a daughter, told Apple Daily: 'Luckily he has such a devoted dog. Otherwise we would never have been able to find his body.'
