during the 7th month ghost festival which jus passed, my dad 'dreamed' of his father (my grandpa whom passed away 2 yrs ago).

My grandpa asked my dad to burn 'passport' to him as he need it to travel to oth region. And the passport must written with my grandpa's name.

My grandpa oso told my dad evry year he'll need to burn a new passport to him as in netherworld , the passport only valid for one year.

I was bit surprised to hear this. Anyone heard of this before?

when a person dies he goes to hell for judgment and after judgment will receive their punishments n go for their reincarnation etc etc so why would there be a need to have a so call passport or other material items?

I think no one will ever has a definite answer whether everything said was actually true. I mean no one actually experience being in netherworld & then came back to tell everyone the answer right? Like dead then reincarnation, and everything is erased from our memory, right? So I guess whether what said is true depends on individual. If they choose to believe they need passports,foods, etc like what we humans need, then they will think it's neccessary to 'burn' it to them. If they dont, then whatever you say will never change their mindset. Well, that's what I think though. (:
