Hi everyone! The purpose of my creating this thread is to gather some opinions about organizing a basketball tournament for us SGClubbers sometime in late November or early December. I'll share with you some of my ideas, so please give me your feedback.

Format

• 3-on-3
• Double Knockout (2KO) or whatever you call it
  • Similar to KO, but with a Losers' Bracket
  • In other words, you are only considered out when you lose two consecutive games. So it is possible that a team which lost in the first round can still make it to the finals.
  • Feasibility depends on the number of teams involved.

Prizes *TENTATIVE*
Unless sponsors can be found, most likely any prizes will have to come from registration fees. Should there be registration fees, I'll try to keep it low, $10 being a ballpark figure.

Rules *TENTATIVE*
I'm sure there are people here who have taken part in such tournaments before, or maybe you're an active street basketball player. In any case, I'd welcome feedback on the proper rules - most importantly game duration and in-game matters like substitutions and timeouts.

Venue
Considering the fact that courts are likely to be quite crowded during weekends, a court might have to be booked. It really depends...or maybe someone knows of good venues for an impromptu tournament?

Any other issues
Anyone has any other issues to raise, feel free to do so.

such low reg fee? u need referees + court fees too..

perhaps it really takes some planning to make this feasible.

I see. Because this is going to be more of a mini-tournament rather than a full-fledged one, and ideally it should be organized by us SGClubbers for ourselves.

The problem with registration fees is that too high and it turns away a sizeable portion who want to play more for the fun, but too low and yea, budgeting becomes a problem...

chinkai.. you might want to book a indoor basketball court in and stadium with the facility. you might want to check out this idea. Cos indoor can accomodate more spectators.
