SINGAPORE: An enhanced online mathematics learning tool will be rolled out in India and Singapore next year.
The website helps children in Primary six and secondary school to absorb maths using content designed in Singapore.
Using technology in the classroom, Raffles Institution is adopting its maths grading system to benchmark how other students perform.
The students learn maths online using animations, diagrams and online worksheets. At the end of the course, the students take an assessment with a grade given to them.
The tool is not part of the Singapore education curriculum, but will be used as a series of modules for each school year.
"We are targeting this HeyMath programme at the more able students. I think this is the strength of Raffles Institution being the leader in educating the gifted and talented. So, it would depend on the schools themselves to look at the programme and see the suitability for which segment of its student population," said Bob Koh, Headmaster, Raffles Institution.
"Technology and connectivity have the potential to realise a world of education without borders, and HeyMath Prime can bridge the divide for children who are gifted in mathematics, regardless of where they study," said Read Admiral Lui Tuck Yew, Minister of State for Education.
There are plans to expand the programme to Hong Kong and the US by the middle of next year.
Plans to make the learning tool available in the UK and Australia have yet to be finalised. - CNA /dt
