One-legged driver charged with causing pedestrian's death

A MALAYSIAN bus driver was charged in court on Thursday with causing the death of a Chinese national through a rash act.

Lai Fook Siang, 41, who came to court in crutches as he has only one leg, was driving a Johor Baru-bound bus when he allegedly failed to give way to Madam Wang Rui Yun, 44, who was crossing the road at the junction of Rochor Road and Queen Street on Sept 11.

He is said to have been making a right turn into Rochor Road that evening when his bus hit the 'study mama'' who was run over and dragged under its left front wheel.

Lai said he intended to engage a lawyer.

He is out on $5,000 bail. A pre-trial conference will be held on Dec 12.

If convicted, he faces up to two years jail or a fine, or both.

A MALAYSIAN bus driver who allegedly ran over and killed a 'Study mama' himself became a victim of a hit-and-run accident a week later in September.

Lai Fook Siang, 41, who came to court in crutches on Thursday as his left leg had recently been amputated from the knee down, was charged with causing the death of a Chinese national through a rash act.

The father of three, aged one to four, was driving a Johor Baru-bound bus when he allegedly failed to give way to Madam Wang Rui Yun, 44, who was crossing the road at the junction of Rochor Road and Queen Street on Sept 11.


Madam Wang Rui Yun, 44, was crossing the road at the junction of Rochor Road and Queen Street when a bus hit her. She was was run over and dragged under its left front wheel.

He is said to have been making a right turn into Rochor Road that evening when his bus hit the 'study mama'' who was run over and dragged under its left front wheel.

A week later on Sept 18 in Johor Baru where he lives, Lai himself was hit by a Pajero car while he was riding his motorcycle to work at about 6 am. The driver then fled the scene.

Lai, who is still on medical leave, is out on $5,000 bail. He said he intended to engage a lawyer. He is out on $5,000 bail.

A pre-trial conference will be held on Dec 12.

If convicted, he faces up to two years jail or a fine, or both.
