"One-eyed dragon" given death sentence - Singapore's Online Community

SINGAPORE: Tan Chor Jin, better known as the "one-eyed dragon" because he is blind in the right eye, was given the death penalty on Tuesday morning.

Tan, 41, had been on trial for shooting nightclub owner, 40-year-old Lim Hock Soon, at his Serangoon flat last February.

Tan had fired six shots at Lim with a .22 calibre pistol.

In closing submissions to the court on Monday, Tan repeated his defence that he had not intended to shoot Lim.

He claimed the gun had misfired.

Tan also claimed he had been under the influence of alcohol.

But consultant psychiatrists testified that Tan knew what he was doing.

The judge also did not buy Tan's argument, pointing out that it requires considerable force to pull the trigger of the murder weapon.

When the verdict was given, Tan asked if he was to be hanged on Wednesday or at a later date.

The judge said Tan could still appeal.

Tan's family members and friends seemed resigned to accept Tan's fate.

"A life for a life, no big deal," said a friend of Tan.

As for the family of the murdered victim, they felt that justice was done.

"He (Tan) deserves to die, don't need to ask if we're satisfied," said a brother of Mr Lim.

"My son (Lim) died a horrible death," said Mr Lim's mother.

It is not clear if Tan would file an appeal against the death sentence.

Seriously, I think this guy has no respect for legal proceedings AT ALL. Vermin like him is better off dead.

It's due time he go burn in hell....the wife of the victim suffered and became an emotional wreck..

He claims the gun misfired....bullshit. Under influence of alcohol to kill....rubbish. It's a pathetic attempt to lessen the sentence...when u kill someone, that's it, really...unless it's manslaughter...nobody escapes the death penalty...

The real victim is the wife...she has my greatest sympathy...hope she stays strong...

but actually hor..the person he killed is also nt a nice guy anyway...he is also a loanshark when he was alive and he did alot of mean things to ppl also..so alot of ppl ,that owe him money when he was alive, were so happy that he was dead cos they no nid to return him the money..haha.they even conferred One eye dragon as hero eh...haha..

yah, get ur point. =) but u see, killing no matter what, is still wrong. Yes, the victim might not be such a great guy back then when he was still alive. But nevertheless, killing is still wrong, get what I mean?

IMHO, those people that label him as hero...arseholes. "Building their happiness on other peoples misery"...

And my point is, the real victim's the wife....the deceased may have done alot of not-so-nice stuffs but at the end of the day, it's the wife who suffers the loss of a husband.

yar true too..along violence is nt the way to solve conflicts..it will only worsen the matter..hope that the victim's wife will get over with it and carry on with life...

if he do not have intention to kill Lim, y he is holding a .22 calibre pistol?? in singapore , holding a deadly weapon no matter you use it or din use it, it is always a death sentence in Singapore.

if u own a deadly weapon, mean u have an intention to kill one else.

there is no such things as misfire as he was high in alcohol. if he did not own that deadly weapon, there wont be a killing scene.

even if he fight with Lim, and kill him by his own fist coz he high in alcohol, maybe there will still be a small tiny chance of living.

so the misfiring is a bullshit.

he deserve to die.

no 1 in this world can choose other ppl to live or die. so he is not a hero at at.
