Hey, anyone of you bought the lappy already? I went to bought mine yesterday it's HP pavilion dv6000. Me and my friend encounter problems activating our windows. The product key we entered doesn't match the window SKU it says.. So i called the hp hotline just now and they say they can't do anything about it and asked us to bring back to the roadshow WHILE the people at the roadshow, told us we cannot bring it back because the problem lies with HP now. Wtf lah.. From what i heard is that we are supposed to be using window vista business but the product key is not business's one. Am not very sure lah but i'm freaking pissed now!! I think those we bought this model may have this problem too. Do share..

How to pester them? I'm really damn mad with them. How can such things happened? If everyone who bought this model is affected i cannot imagine the confusion caused seriously.. I'm left with 24 days since i can't activate it. They better do something to it soon. My $1.7k for a messy laptop zzzzz.

Thanks i really hope it can be solved asap. I don't feel happy at all thou i've gotten the lappy. Awaiting news from my friend's mum. She's calling the HP company to complain now.

which course are u in? if u are frm SIT, perhaps u can visit http://inspiration.nyp.edu.sg/ under the "For your Info".. they tell u hw to get ur activation key..

I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

BUT I BOUGHT ACER 4920G, INSTEAD OF HP.

I guess the problem is that they installed WINDOWS VISTA BUSINESS INSTEAD OF WINDOWS VISTA HOME EDITION. If we had home edition, we would be able to skip this troublesome step.

But! I called ACER to ask about the problem, maybe you guys can go try it.

Go HERE, then look at for your info, HOW TO GET A WINDOWS XP OR VISTA KEY? download the ppt, read it.

Now I'm stuck at logging into the NYP EMAIL.. they say the user is ur admin no, then the pw is your NRIC, but I try liao the logging in thing keep rebouncing back! dont let me go in!

You guys go try le then tell me you can or not?

Yup i cannot login too hahaha. I type my admin number then follow by the email too also cannot lor! Maybe when we go school they will help us or what? My webcam also have prob lor. Once i start up the lappy can use for 1 time only. Subsequently if u want to webcam with your friends again, for the 2nd time, it cannot work liao. Say what must plug in blah blah damn!!

ask the call agents to help u create a case for ur lappy then infm the delivery team to pick-up ur lappy for inspection. It shld be still under warranty right? Gt problem hp will call before they do anything to ur lappy. Quite effecient de. For those under warranty del shld be free too. If u really nd to use it quickly can go there personally. For most cases repair takes 3 to 5 working days. =)

oh ya btw pavillion usually quite good..it's probably no serious problem dun worry..

Is it compulsory to have a lappy? I got a call from my mentor juz now, informing me to meet up with the rest of the class for some lappy preparation or something. The only thing he doesn't know, is i dun have one, lol.

dun think its compulsory.. but it is very very highly recommended coz NYP has some e-learning.. and sometimes u need to acces it during it lesson time..
and over at SIT, the labs over at 6th flr has veri limited desktops.. so it would be best if u have ur own laptop, so u wont have to fight wif other fer the use of desktop and u get to save ur work on ur own com

Got volume licensing problem, i suspect. Most probably the other notebooks of the same model will have the same problem as well. Call the HP helpdesk to complain. Speak to their team lead or supervisor. Tell them how useless the laptops are and if they refuse to help, tell them u wish to speak to their manager. I used to work as Helpdesk before, so I know, hehehe. Their service centre is at Alexandra Technopark anyway. I doubt u guys would want to travel all the way there juz to service ur laptop. Tell them to send their onsite engineers if they can't resolve it over the phone.

U go back roadshow also no point, those guys don't know anything about volume licensing. So juz call helpdesk and complain. And remember to get the reference /ticket no.

Hmm but guys, i'm not good at speaking up you see lol. I'm still waiting for my mum's friend to call me back. She told me she just called for the manager and is waiting for the manager to call back now. I hate it when there's problem and the worse is nobody can do anything about it! Sigh sigh don't know that hp is doing nowadays lol.
