Hi there,
I am from Soc NUS. well, they do teach from basics such as programming methodologies in java. If you have interest in computing and work hard, rest assured you will survive and do well in it. I came from science background, knows nothing about computing before enter Uni. But after struggle 1 sem, manage to survive to year 4 this coming sem. So far I didn't get any module below B, so i guess no prio knowledge of computing is required actually if you willing to work hard.

good luck

For courses in School of computing, in the first two sems, you have to take some common modules to all computing students, these modules are programming mythologies, data structure and algorithms, basic networking, basic operation system , database etc... all these common modules will equip you with the basic knowledge you needed to go on study more advance topics. then depends on which stream you are studying, you will specialized on certain areas. For example, computer engineering will be more focus on embeded systems, real time operations systems, concurrent programming etc... computer science students will focus more on Artificial intelligent, algorithms, etc... you can find more info on the website http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/undergradprog/degree.shtml

As for what do we do in the course, for year one modules, basically it's lecture, tutorial and labs. Labs are basically some mini assignments for you to practice your programming skills, usually will have a weightage of around 20 to 25% of the overall module score. For year two onwards, most of the modules will require you to do a mini project in groups or individual. So basically most of the time will be study lecture notes, do tutorial and projects..
